I’ve got an ancient Bailey V2 and I love it. Nil wind take offs require some use of the brakes but I’ve got up with a take off of 18 stone. I wouldn’t ever go 2 stroke. As soon as this Bailey dies, or more likely I trash the frame, I’ll get a V5. I did a weight comparison between the old V2 Bailey and a parajet V3 polini Thor 190. There was only 2kg in it . The parajet had more fuel, but needed it anyway and it’s frame is way more robust than the Bailey but still, I wouldn’t swap the Bailey for it.

take in consideration that the empty weight is also close to landing weight. My r125 has 21hp and 23kg empty - 3,5l/hour. So when i land ... i have a 23-24 kg on my back. My wing comes really fast for landing so the 4 extra kg now makes a difference.

I was under training with a bloke who sold Parajet, Bailey and MiniPlain + others. We spent hours discussing various options and designs. Baily has released only a few pictures of the Superlite. It was very frustrating, hence I made the video. I bought it cause the high number of customers I know who fly them love the 4 stroke engine.

I had the Matrix V5S, I do miss it. I was just a bit too short for the big frame. The Lite frame seems to be a lot higher on the back.

Man I bought the 4 stroke cause they have a reputation for being reliable. BUT mine keeps blowing oil of of the head breather into the carb, and a serious amount of Oil. Such a shame as I really like the Bailey. I have just got it back from their second attempt at fixing it. Also its power is lower than a 2 stroke. I'm 100kg and on full speed bar its flat out and only just maintains height. Ideal fro someone lighter I guess. Its great for XC. Anyway just bought a Maverick

I also am going with a motor designed for more weight than might be necessary, several people have suggested to have a little more power as opposed to "just enough". I'm noting to do with Bailey. They are a SMALL company, and yes they have not updated their web site in years for various reasons. Shame but I think they lost the person who used to update it, due to a sister company going bust. Used to make racing parts for cars.

ParaTard: I have been looking at 4 strokes for some time. I don't like 2 strokes of any kind. Not even on a motorcycle. There noisy, dirty and inefficient. And who wants to carry the oil on a cross country trip? I don't. Weight ? I'll be flying a trike, anyway. I don't want a string trimmer on my back. I want a real motor. First of all, let me say I took a keen interest in your amusing video. But let me correct you; a 4 stroke engine DOES NOT vibrate less than a 2 stroke engine, they do in fact vibrate much-much more. It is the chief reason you don't find them employed on foot launch paramotors because the harsh vibrations produced cannot be isolated from the pilot; resulting in pilot fatigue. You'll find 4 strokes on dedicated trikes/quads and powered parachutes, due to the frames ability to isolate the pilot from the harsh vibrations. That is just a fact of the reciprocating engine's characteristic, of which every engine specialist knows. It takes 6 cylinders to smooth out a 4 stroke engine. So, if you find your Bailey 4 stroke engine's vibrations are low, then the engine has been greatly detuned and is not tuned to run at it's full potential, which makes it inefficient to it's potential. When I saw the small muffler and you said it runs quietly, I then knew the engine was detuned. The only long flying are in sporting events like the Icarus race. In general, the weather severely limits paramotor flight time to 2 hours at sunrise and sunset. The rotary wankel runs very smoothly, but the combustion chamber's side seals don't last long when operated at high rpm and is not fuel efficient; Parajet and Mazda experience. A future engine with promise is the Opposing Piston engine developed long ago in Germany for long flight aircraft. A one chamber 2 stroke opposing piston runs smoothly, is fuel efficient, produces low emissions, and might be ideal for foot launch paramotors. But we must wait and see. I could be wrong and usually am, but I think generally, performance 4 strokes rev higher than 2s, but as the power stroke is half as often it’s bhp size for size is less.

Adding 5 cylinders is a way to smooth an engine. So is adding a flywheel. Or a prop. Maybe the best thing would be to compare actual machines back to back. Or this KZbinr can save you the bother as he’s done it and has found his 4 stroke to be smoother. As for weather restricting flying to sunrise and sunset, I think you'll find that’s a pilot restriction. Many many pilots fly during the day. Paramotoring started from paragliding. Get out and enjoy some thermals!

You forgot to say they also piss then selfs... I now have a brand be Moster also,,, Over 5 lts per hour, Bailey drinks 3lts. Moster has more power though. All good fun
