I have to say, I am starting to find painting more enjoyable ever since I seen a video of you showing how to just use basic shapes while sketching (and then editing the shapes as you go along). I was getting way to rigid, and was stuck on a beautiful floral painting (of which I redid three times, all because I was going for the super realistic art style). But ever since starting a brand new painting, I was able to just start painting pretty much immediately! Before, I thought that I needed my painting to exactly match every minute detail of the photograph (The exact same curvature of the lines, with the exact same tiny ripples in each of the pedals). I am not working off of a photograph for this painting, however; and am going back to painting images that I have seen in my past dreams (mostly massively huge interiors with sometimes glass walls, cubby holes in walls, lots of plants, indoor water streams, stepping stones, skylights (windows), waterfalls, and often interesting details that you don't see in real life (such as shapes cut into the glass walls (the edges of the shapes glowing different colors (and sometimes ambient music to go with it). Because I am not strictly working from a photograph, I am having fun painting my new piece, and only go out and take photographs of leaves and things, if I need a better idea of all of the different ways, angles, and directions the leaves flow, as they hang on a vines (dangling down a wall). I really hope that this painting keeps going for me, because I am making faster progress with it than when I tries painting that photograph of the flower.

Fave is the rose/ranunculus. The struggle is real though; I'm not getting the right proportions of paint to water and I don' thave a real liner brush yet so all my stems are thiccc. XD

I have always thought it was a weird habit to spritz down the whole pallette before starting a painting. I've only ever just used a dropper to wet the colors I'm going to be using, because why wet a pan of pink if you're painting a leaf or whatever, ya know? It wasn't until just now that I realize how much more spontaneous you can be with your color choices if you get them all ready from the start. TYSM:)

@@KristyRice oh my goodness! I just re-watched this vid and your crayola bouquet vid while I was painting. And...I did the mix on the page thing. It was uncomfortable at first, definitely takes some getting used to, but it was SO MUCH FUN! I did find myself getting particular about the yellows tho, I didn't want to make brown. Found myself with 2 different brushes in my hand to keep the yellows yellow, lol. This was the perfect way to spend half an hour this morning. Tysm. I love your enthusiastic encouragement. Joy definitely radiates out of your videos:)

@@Angie_978 Ohhhh I'm so glad you tried this!! Yes yellow is the easiest color to contaminate for sure but it can also be cleaned up reasonably easy. One trick is to have two pans of your favorite yellow in the palette. One for being messy with and one to keep perfectly clean :)

Great question! The main difference between hot press and cold press paper is that cold press tends to absorb the water more readily than hot press

Pick one. Try it again and again, different colors to keep it interesting. And each time you try it slightly change how you’re holding your brush. If you’re trying to mimic my brush hold and it’s not comfortable for you that could be causing some frustration :)
