I left Photoshop for one reason, and that's because of their swap from a traditional license to a subscription model. I would rather pay once and not worry about recurring fees and have something I know I'll be using for the rest of my life. Procreate does that, and on PC, Clip Studio Paint does it. Kinda hate that on iPad CSP is sub model, but I'll stick to PC for that.

I will say I’ve used procreate for years at this point and honestly for iPad and Apple Pencil it’s a great app. I do say where it shines is it’s portable sketch book area the technical pencil is pretty much all I need for sketching up my illustrations and I understand that changing brushes is a bit hard mid flow I think I have at least created and made multiple sets of the same brush with different settings over the course of time to minimise my need to go into brush settings and edit them but for new users who haven’t had the time to do that it can be a bit of a turn off and flow break. I will say taking a sketch from procreate to Affinity Designer is a good jump if you are a mainly photoshop user as Affinity is basically photoshop and illustrator in one and might be more interesting to you Ross for your needs tho I personally cannot vouch for how good a painting app it is as I’m an illustrator type artist.

I think I like the feel of inexpensive silicon tips on the Apple Pencil without having to worry about wearing-down the pencil's own tip.

All procreate needs is a true vector pen tool, more than 1 slots for brush shape like how clip studio pro/ manga studio pro has and a better text function that allows for circle text or even text on a vector line like in vectornator and this program will be the Photoshop killer.

Amazing how I’m drawing on Procreate as this gets posted. Currently finishing up the line work of a drawing, and I have more of an affinity for Procreate than Photoshop in the sense that Procreate is leagues cheaper and has animation option. The max layers depending on your canvas size can be detrimental at some points, but if you flatten the layers you can edit easily, it’s pretty easy and fun!
@Zenzuke3 жыл бұрын
Not to defend Photoshop, but it has a timeline, and in that regard, it's miles better than Procreate's animation tools. Procreate is better in MANY MANY other things, though

The price for photoshop and all adobe products really is the biggest issue, especially for beginners. I know I wouldn’t be using them at all if it weren’t for being a student. It’s just so much nicer to be able to purchase a licence up front and use it from then on. I usually use clip studio to finish stuff but its so much fun to sketch in procreate. Especially since you can go anywhere.

Photoshop is not going away anytime soon. Not only is it still the absolute best solution for creating digital art, after all these years, but also so many companies are invested in having their employees use it, it's pretty much ubiquitous as THE program to make professional art assets (besides Illustrator) so that it would take a huge momentum shift to switch to a different program. If you're interested in working professionally, you need to know how to use Photoshop, period. Procreate is a super cool program tho, if you're making art for yourself it's a perfectly good program to use.

To me Photoshop was not made for drawing. I use it as a graphic designer, but when it comes to drawing, I just feel like it's filled with too many tools, and the ones that are easily accessibles are not always the ones that are the most useful. Toady, we are lucky to have way more drawing program options than back in 2006 😁 we can choose one that feels right ! My favorite is Clip Studio Paint
@Cantrona2 жыл бұрын
If you need a comporimise between PS and iPad use, I recommend Art Studio Pro. I tried to love Procreate when I first got my iPad, but I had such a hard time adapting my workflow after 10+ years of Photoshop. Art Studio Pro, especially with the customizability of the tool bar and the quick shortcut menu that's also fully customizable (it's great for if you don't make it a habit to connect a keyboard to your iPad for shortcuts), I was able to scratch the itch and the next thing I knew, I hadn't made a photoshop painting in all of 2021 haha. Going back to PS in 2022, I really ended up missing the smudge tool from ASP, but PS still felt like home.

WHAT!? How the heck did I miss this video? I have been subbed since forever and even have the brushes pack. I love Procreate! Where have I been? Regardless of the price model, I think Photoshop will be around for quite a while. It is still the industry standard and if you want to work for a design firm or something along those lines in a professional capacity, it is almost guaranteed to be required knowledge. I mean, have you seen how long companies hold onto their licenses for other software? I only have the CC suite because my client pays for it. If it wasn't for his needs I wouldn't actually need it, so he gets to pay for my access to it.
