cheers for the advice on the flat 5 for the abus 55/40, got me a sparrows vorax set - and had a much more satisfying experience this time around!

I'm glad it worked out. They are a bit bendy, but very helpful on the tighter keyways.

I think I remember watching the first video when I was just starting to pick, but I'll have to check for curiosity sake. I instantly imagined the following conversation ensued... LPL: Here, talk to my lawyer, Hi it's me... Seller: Where would you like it shipped Sir? Hahahaha! Glad the seller did right by you. Nicely done, by the way.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
LOL... it was easier than I expected. The seller was very accommodating when I explained the issue. No idea where he got the core. Not sure that I want to know.

Sounds like the seller has been gypping clueless buyers on expensive locks with cheap cores. They can then sell the core separately for a few bucks on eBay through another account.

Mark M Could be... I would have mentioned the seller, but here didn't have any other locks listed.

Great pick LPL, can you tell me where one can purchase steel pins for both padlocks and knob cylinders?
@lockpickinglawyer6 жыл бұрын
I don’t know. Never seen them for sale.

This lock looks like its so large it could me uncomfortable to pick in palm, I'd likely need a vice. Being fairly new to picking I always expect monster sized locks to have monster sized cores, it always surprises and delights me to see a small core in a large lock. What was the reason the original core had the wrong pins was it used?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
It's very uncomfortable to hold! The buyer never gave me an explanation, though I suspect the answer was that he wanted it for himself and didn't think I'd notice (which I didn't).
@JessHull8 жыл бұрын
Its large hard edged heaviness is almost like a unintended security feature, being that its hard and awkward to hold if you were to pick it in situ. I forgot to add how pleasing those, now proper, pins are to look at.

I find serrated pins easier to pick than spools, simply because spools require more discipline with the tension tool. If you don't keep enough tension, it's very easy to overset them.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
You are in the (very lucky) minority. Most people, including myself, find spools to be easier.

If the seller has more of these locks, send me a link, this one is also one missing from my collection.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
The seller doesn't have any listed, but there are at least 4 on ebay now... all about $50. Not a bad price, but you can probably do better with some patience.

How do you make the difference between a set pin and a pin stuck in a cerration without having to stuck or set them all ?? I usually go to the next pin wen I have a click but I see that you know right away that you need another one on the pin. Excellent video as always
@PickME19778 жыл бұрын
Great picking!...I do have to wonder about the effectiveness of the spools in 4, 5, and 6. Looked to me that the key pins were pretty long..did the spools even come into play? would at least one of them be better positioned in 2 or 3.?
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks... and not really. Though to be fair, since I find spools to be much easier, it probably made the lock harder for me.

With the spinning drill guard at the front, are the steel pins still necessary, in your opinion?
@PapaGleb8 жыл бұрын
It's additional security not to mention a small drill bit can very easily by pass it and get to the brass core.
@MrCardeso8 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. So, I guess the more important security features are the steel pins, and not the spinning guard.
@PapaGleb8 жыл бұрын
I think so. Honestly I dont think that plate offers any security what so ever. I would still use and recommend this lock because the most common attacker would not think of drilling not to mention the shear size of this lock would scare any attacker away.
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
It's not a spinner, and the drill protection is minimal... it only covers a portion of the area needed. Precise drilling with a smaller than normal bit can probably overcome it. In any case, a little more protection never hurts.

Big hunk of metal.😱😯😯 Tiny core( always makes me laugh)😂😂 Not sure why serrated,surely they don't come into play as there is no threading in the bible or core?🤔🤔 Was the core counter milled at all? Thanks for another video to make me think👍👍😘🍻😎
@lockpickinglawyer8 жыл бұрын
LOL. The serrated pins don't need threading to make them effective... at least I found these lock pretty hard in the beginning. Though some threading would certainly make them a little harder. The only core like this that I've ever seen with countermilling is, coincidentally, the lock I posted today!
