Oh wow, yes it certainly is beautiful in that area. It was great that Mark was able to accompany you some of the way down Frank. It was awfully muddy and wet down there. Those buckets were cool. Amazing that the ladders where still in a useable condition. Thought you were at a rave for a moment there with that light setting. That was a long, long way down, but there’s not much that fazes you Frank. The wheelbarrow was such a nice piece of history, what a shame that it was so far down. The ore cart was excellent especially when you think how old it is and how long its been in situ, really nice. What a surprise seeing the porcupine. Couldn’t believe it when you went across the winze. Great exploration, thanks for sharing. Take care, stay safe. 👍 👍 ❤️

Amazing that those ladders were still in pretty good shape with all the water and moisture there. Geeze, I wonder how far down that shaft goes! That was a pretty good size porcupine there. You could have scuba dived in that winze ! Sketchy for sure. Another cool episode, thanks.

You never disappoint on these adventures, this one sounds like you were walking through a shower room with all of that water falling. Where does it all go? - - - - - Was stationed in the Mojave the last year I was in the Navy (1977-1978), a friend and I would go mine exploring. We explored a couple of the old Chinese works, they did not dig large tunnels, following the gold. Most of them you had to crawl on your belly, until you came to where they hit some gold, then it opened up into large chambers, the gold taken out had been mostly nuggets according to the history. Not a place for a claustrophobic person. The last one we explored was dug into a thick layer of prehistoric river rock, the chamber was a good 15+ ft. (4.6 m) floor to ceiling. My friend walked out of that one with a fair sized nugget that had been overlooked. We found an abandoned miners home, that had been built into the same type of river bank. The miner had dug out his claim and then built a nice cozy 3 room place, all lined with planks for the walls, ceiling and floors. He even had a couple of windows that had, had glass in them. It was nice and cool inside, the outside temp was about the low 100 F (37.8 c)outside and it was a comfortable 80 F (26 c) inside. Aw, those were the days of fun and adventure.
@exploringabandonedmines5 жыл бұрын
They were probably placer deposits following bedrock.
@ShellyAnn1a5 жыл бұрын
The old Chinese mines were dug into gravel water courses, most of the chambers never reached down to bedrock. From what I remember there were not that many placer claims in the area, there is only water in those old water course when the monsoon rains fall. When they come it is extremely deadly to be in or near some of those dry river beds. One of the legends from that time was of a gold and silver bullion shipment being sent to Los Angeles, it was supposed to have been nearly half a ton in total weight. A cloud burst over the mountains sent a gully washer down the riverbed. The wagon and team of six, plus half of the out riders were caught in the wall of water and washed away, the wagon and all were buried under the wall of mud and debris. I was stationed near there between 1976 and 1978. A bunch of us from the medical clinic would get together and try to find it, well everybody who heard the legend did. We went in with those old bulky metal detectors, all we found was a bunch of junk. Some tourist were out there and were searching for the fabled treasure, all they found was a Volkswagen beetle and the remains of the lady who was driving it. She had vanished a good decade before I was stationed out there. There are tons of legends about that area during the gold rush years of eastern California. Outlaws, Indian massacres, lost WW II aircraft, and many other things, even a few about UFO's. Would have loved to find one of those gold bars, would have been set for life. Cannot wait until you next adventure.

Absolutely totally beautiful country there. I can see why your auto license plates say, "Beautiful British Columbia" !! Those were some nice looking buckets here above that grizzly. They would make a great addition to a mining museum !! Loved the Disco Light Show !! With all that track and all the ore passages, wouldn't you think there might be a haulage level below somewhere? The Ore Cart and Wheelbarrow were definitely museum quality equipment. Well, with a porcupine there, you wouldn't starve as long as you didn't slip on the crap and fall down an ore pass. That second adit you checked out had some nice quartz but it looked like no mineralization for the most part. Great video and tour !! Could we go a little slower in the next exploration - you seemed really pushed for time and I missed your usual running commentary you have when you explore on your own. Thanks again for the enjoyable exploration !!!
