Have the 2017 Fusion PHEV - bought used with 26,000 miles because original owner wanted a Tesla instead. The best car I have ever owned. For my driving needs, fill up every 1-2 months. Full electric for all local driving. Only use gas for the long trips and put 20,000 miles on it in 2 years with average of 70 mpg. Simply outstanding - I wish Ford still made these cars

What us something that you will look for when buying a fusion hybrid. I'm trying to get one 2017 hybrid fusion. So what types of things do you look for and ask the dealer
@jonyrock
@jonyrock 2 жыл бұрын
I mean not much help asking the dealer any questions, they didn't own the car. The main things these cars (or any car) need are oil changes, transmission fluid change every 60-100k miles (every car should have this done), and possibly brakes if it was driven in a city environment. Honestly the water pumps are electric and I'm not familiar with their lifespan but that could be another thing to consider. I hope this helps!

So you only get about 15-20 miles on a single full EV battery charge? And can the alternator charge the EV battery while you're driving?
@jonyrock
@jonyrock 4 ай бұрын
The range is correct. And these cars don't have an alternator. In the transmission they have attached the "drive motor" to move the car, and a "regeneration" motor that uses slowing motion to regenerate. If I'm not mistaken, the regeneration motor can also be engaged when the gas engine is on to charge the battery.

what speed are you going on the highway? if you set the cruise control to 61mph in the regular hybrid fusion 2013 you get 50mpg, with the engine on ive done 65 miles one way, and back for a month doing that. Staying in right lane. If I do 70 i get a min of 41mpg cruise control. car is in cruise control like 90% of the time. Only time i dont do cruise control is in traffic or when im backroad using hills. averaging 37mph in my regular fusion hybrid i can easily get 61mpg on hilly backroads Im tempted to buy one but not for 60 mpg. at 140k the battery degradation is showing i can only pull of 55 on hilly backroad area and like 40 on highway at 70mph, 61mph still yields like 48mpg, previous owner who sold it at 31k averaged 33mpg.
@jonyrock
@jonyrock Жыл бұрын
So i do a lot of 70 mph driving where the car gets 38-39mpg. The phev has a bigger electric motor so it does less mpg than the regular hybrid. I'm in Florida so there aren't many hills to coast around here 😂

Hi, have you ever used L gear? I have not got mine car yet, I order c-max 2017 . Read manuals, but not see the reason when I have to use that L? And what is a differances with downhill assist in practice?
@jonyrock
@jonyrock 2 жыл бұрын
Never have used it, guessing it's low gear? We have no hills on fl lol
@maksymtopchyi201
@maksymtopchyi201 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonyrock I have found only that L - use more engine bracking and charge the battery better, but also uses more gas. It is clear how it works, but why do I need it in real life? Transmittion does not have any “gears” inside. It is just a programmic behavior. So it is not clear for me why it is exists if it does not help me to save gas.
@jonyrock
@jonyrock 2 жыл бұрын
@@maksymtopchyi201 it would only help if you're towing something or are going down a hill, keeps ratio low, electric motor spins more, makes more electricity. Will burn more gas if you're driving everywhere in that mode
@maksymtopchyi201
@maksymtopchyi201 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonyrock Yes, it is what Grade/hill assist is doing too, also, it's keeping the speed and charging the battery. L - from the hill is only brakes the car more, like in manual transmission, yes it is charging the battery too, just because it is always doing when the engine is running. In the user manual, I read that c-max is not approved for towing trailers. So, it's confusing me, why I need that functions as separate functions :) So, the only differences in modes I see are that in Grade/hill assist is more priority for charging. And you can combine both of them if the 1st one is not enough.
@Bleksano
@Bleksano Жыл бұрын
so low gear keeps the engine and both motors all connected to the wheels. So the transmission has a baby motor on a shaft that connects to the engine, then a planetary gear that then on the other sides connects to the large motor. When in regular mode the engine is disengaged from the transmission. So these hybrids dont have starts, when you are driving and the engine needs to turn on it in a split second connects the gasless non moving engine straight to the gear and the motion of the motor/wheels rotates the engines immediately to the same speed essentially, simplified, thats why the engine doesn't feel like it starts. it just resumes, once it rotates at the same speed"nont exactly" it sends gas into the cylinders and starts combustion Anyway low gear keeps them always connected. The car is smart. If you take your foot of the gas pedal, it cuts gas immediately to the engine, but the engine keeps running because the motor is turning the engine and the wheels. So youd use this for mountain descents, its engine braking with no gas used. When the engine goes to shut off while driving the car it "slowly" reduces gas input into the engine, till combustion stops, then the motor/wheel is what is keeping it moving , then in that split second it DC's the engine from the transmission. Again however in low gear it never DC's the engine. So because the engine can be ran without gas via the motor rotating the shaft when slowing down. Something unique can be done if you ever lose a fuel injector or have another issue with one cylinder not firing. I'd use it only in emergency since it will still cause stress but not as bad, To address that violent vibration of running an engine like that, for temporary sake, you engage low gear, when you start from stop hard accelerate in low gear to stabilize the engine better using the motors power. when you go to stop take your foot off the pedal so gas stops going to the cylinders then when you stop its not violently shaking, because now its the momentum of the car keeping the engine rotating and not combustion, so no vibration @@maksymtopchyi201

I've done the math, with current gas prices it costs me a little over 11 cents a mile to drive, on electric i spend .05 cents a mile, and the engine gets no wear so I can go longer without changing my oil, lowering my costs to operate my vehicle even more.
