I have traveled through Laos a couple times. Beautiful country and wonderful people. Things are changing fast. The new train system from China goes through Laos and will connect to Bangkok. Then probably all the way to Singapore. Gonna change Laos fast.

Too hard for these “world travelers” to do any fact checking before ever posting online. Misinformation, even if it is a mistake can be very costly, especially for other travelers who go into places blindly without knowing some local customs or facts. Saying Lao and Thai is the same language would be just as offensive to claim Italian and Spanish is the same!

They come from the same language family but are not the same languages. There is even a Thai dialect called Isaan that is closer to Lao than Thai is yet is not considered the same language

I learned about the Lao culture and history from my library class (we had to pick a book). I found out about the weaving, the festivals, the dishes, the history and the geography. I chose the book because the language is interesting.

Laotian and Thai people don't speak the same language. Majority of Laotians speak Thai or understand Thai language, but Thai people don't really speak Lao. They might understand a little. The fact is not accurate.

I got your point that thai and lao can understand each other language but we didn't actually speak the same language 😅 it is difficult to distinguish the difference because lao and thai language has on root word that come from Bali, but lao and thai is not the same language that easiest way to know that thai language or lao is looking at the alphabet and intonation when speak. lao language no word that sound "r" at all we have only "l",but in somecase we use "r" when we adopted that word from thai or others countries, I mean lao root no sound "r", but opposite from thai language
