The greatest king of the Neo-Babylonian era was Nebuchadnezzar, who dominated the ancient Near East and who forms much of the background for the books of Daniel and Jeremiah. In this lecture the first few years of Nebuchadnezzar's reign are detailed, along with the counsel from Jeremiah to the exiles in Babylon. For more free resources. please visit www.brucegore.com.

I'm pretty sure Daniel did not eat the king's food because it did not follow Levitical Law. I know it is intuitive and not for sure, but a lot of the Bible is intuitive and that's how we read deeper into the text. What I mean is reading between the lines, and not reading through the back cover. WE can't make bad eisegesis, but Daniel not eating the food because it was unclean is Biblically sound.

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king. Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink. Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭1:8-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

25:33 *Finally* 😂 Ezechiel! (I read the major prophets through the year in their own "column", though admittedly I give Isaias a few readings through the year because ...ISAIAH! ❤️ It's plausible I should give Isaias his own column so I read an Isaias chapter EVERY day of the year). But as it is, I get Ezechiel and Baruch and Daniel only once a year. I thought you'd have a WHOLE VIDEO on Ezechiel as you do on the minors! (Good job). My "Bible reading plan" (always a work in progress) attempts to start the "Histories" with 1 Samuel (1 Ki) through Ezra with the minor prophets "sprinkled in" where they would go chronologically. I've gotten such a blessing reading "the histories" that way, plus every day have a major prophet, but I fear Ezechiel and Daniel get too brief a moment. (I read Job during Lent. And he's pretty huge too). Anyway, perhaps you would consider doing videos on the major prophets? (2021!)

There’s actually good evidence that the Garden was near Nineveh. A stone carving from a king 100 years earlier talks about a garden he had built in the area and at the time it was considered Babylonia. I saw a documentary on it that’s pretty compelling. As for the two different Babylons… The city could have eventually been moved. It’s happened with others in the past. Or Babylonia could be the name of the kingdom in the land of Assyria. The same as we have countries on continents, today. It could also be both options or neither. At the moment no one knows and if the woman doing the research does by now she isn’t saying. 😂

A minor point that always bothered me: why do we refer to Daniel (God is my judge) and not Belteshazzar (Bel protect the king) whereas we always refer to Hananiah (God is graciius) as Shadrach (command of Aku), Mishael (God is asked for) as Meshach (Aku is asked for), and Azariah (God is my help) as A ed ego (slave of Nebo)? I understand why once they became Satraps in Babylon one might refer to them by their Babylonian names, but why in a book written for the Hebrew people would they choose to exalt Babylonian gods like Aku (the moon god) or Nebo (god of wisdom) rather Jehovah and not Daniel

Just wouldn't agree that Christ is ruling as king at the moment as psalm 110 v 1 says that Christ is sitting at the right hand of the father until he makes his enemies his footstool. So yes Christ is sovereign and has all authority but he is not exercising it at this point in time. But other than that your videos are fascinating and really enjoy them. God bless.

There is no biblical evidence for any interpretation. The closest we have are the 10 Kings of Revelation and even that isn't proof of anything. So, the question is, why is there no New Testament mention of the image of the dream? It evidently was of no concern as even the all-important 70 Weeks of Daniel goes without New Testament mention of this timeline.

Daniel is obviously using the king superstition against him. And why would the king prostrate himself to a dream diviner ? And what is it with theology building and dream? @mcgeorgerl

I'll chime in here... A lot has changed since the days of Ussher's Annals of the World and now it seems that every time someone kicks a cylinder out of the sand or finds another stele while plowing a field, our dating shifts a bit, and our understanding of events improves. Even the latest issue of Biblical Archaeology Review gives the fall of Jerusalem a date of 586 BC rather than a 587 BC date which has stood for years. Really, the order of events is more critical than the date but if you want to enter the field of Chronology, be prepared for a lot of doubt and confusion. I have a lot of books on Biblical Chronology and there is only one certainty... No two chronologists will ever agree. I came here hoping to hear of what Josephus recounts in Antiquities 10.7.3 concerning Nebuchadnezzar's war with Egypt (Pharoah Hophra/Apries). The map Bruce shows of the extent of the Babylonian Empire extends up the Nile to Upper Egypt, yet many Biblical and secular scholars severely restrict Nebuchadnezzar's penetration only unto Tahpanhes and then only for a short time, far short of the 40 years prophesied. But, in reality, most dates for this time period usually only vary +/- 2 years over the last 300 years of chronological work and WIKI is almost always in that ballpark.

@GoreBruce
@GoreBruce 7 жыл бұрын
I think the best theory as to the meaning of the expression is to call attention to an empire that was not homogeneous. Iron and clay do not mix. The Roman Empire was a far flung collection of individual kingdoms, provinces, ethnicities, tribes, etc., and though they hung together through the force of 'iron,' as it were, there was never any real shared culture. Understand, I'm not going to die on that hill, but that strikes me as a reasonable stab at the meaning of the metaphor. Thanks for asking!

@@kennick7 Fourth Kingdom: This vision of the feet and toes is Imperial Rome. Their weapons were made of iron and crushed every enemy in their path. The 10 toes on the feet represented the 10 Caesars of Imperial Rome (Julius, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero, Galba, Otho, Vitellius and Vespasian (father of Titus and Domitian). This can be debated as the 10 toes can start with Augustus and end with Titus. Or there are some views that the 10 toes are the 10 provinces of Rome which are also the 10 horns of Revelation 12:3 which would be Idumea, Judaea, Samaria, Galilee, Phoenicia, Nabatea, Perea, Decapolis, Gaulanitis, Syria. The iron mixed with clay is a metaphor that Rome was mixed with other nations. They did not intend to turn each place they conquered into another city of Rome but that these places would still be identified as they were but under the authority and jurisdiction of the Roman Empire. Partly strong (iron/Romans) and partly weak (clay/common people). Rome implemented a time period of peace and stability (Pax Romana) as long as everyone under their reign played by the rules and didn’t stir the pot. But the opposite is what is meant when Daniel is shown of the kingdom being divided. Many nations did not like the fact that they were under the reign and rule of Rome and lashed out in riots and wars against Rome in which Rome would then crush them for their insurrectionist rebellion. Iron being mixed with the seed of men means with common folk. This means that some Romans had either married and/or raped many of the women and had children with them. It was during this 4th kingdom of Rome that the Kingdom of God would be introduced and Jesus Christ inaugurated as King. This Kingdom would be different than every kingdom before it. It would begin small and slowly but surely expand its borders in the hearts of people. It’s weapons of warfare were not carnal weapons but spiritual weapons that designed to defeat a spiritual enemy.

Yeah, there are many theories. Most miss a couple of things though. The "Greeks" of Daniel are not really "Greeks" as the word used there is related to Javan of Japheth. As such it could be referring to a "people group" rather than a country. Always remember, Alexander was not Greek, he was Macedonian as were the Ptolemies and Seleucids. If you had called Alexander a "Greek" to his face, your head would have likely been quickly removed from your shoulders. I suspect Paul thinks the same way as he divides peoples into two groups, "Jews and Greeks" when he writes to the Romans. So, he appears to indicate that he groups those living on the Mediterranean Boot as "Greeks" which would shift our "countries with borders" thinking a bit. The 4 Wings of the Leopard being the Diocochi is also a "non-starter" for me as there were more than 4 commanders under Alexander and, in the prophecy, only two of them matter anyway; the kings of the north and the kings of the south... no one else really gets a single mention. The "4" could just as easily be interpreted as the 4 Winds or 4 Corners indicating the 4 Cardinal directions. We may all be gob-smacked at the true interpretation.

quick question why was The book of Daniel written in Greek first and then translated back into the language that the Hebrews spoke and then put it in the Bible later on why is it that the Jews have a whole another ideology pertaining toward this book then we do
@GoreBruce
@GoreBruce 2 жыл бұрын
It is a quick question, but there is no 'quick' answer. Suffice it to say that the history of the production of the book of Daniel remains a highly controversial mystery, and there is plenty of technical scholarship out there that has addressed the question. One thing is certain, by the first century the book of Daniel, regardless of its origins, was widely read and regarded as canonical throughout Jewish circles.
@mcgeorgerl

One of the interesting things about Daniel is that Josephus spends some time recounting the events and some of prophecies of Daniel. However, when it comes to the stone that smashes the feet of the image, Josephus says, "Daniel did also declare the meaning of the stone to the king but I do not think proper to relate it, since I have only undertaken to describe things past or things present, but not things that are future;" It seems that Josephus did not want to chance falling out of favor with his Roman patron or those Romans in power that would read his history since that "stone" indicates the fall of all world empires, including the Roman emperor's. But Josephus never once intimated anything "wrong" or unreliable about the book he considered as part of his "sacred writings".

THEY NEVER FOUND ANY HANGING GARDENS IN BABYLON.......MANY ARCHAEOLOGISTS SAY THERE NEVER WAS A HANGING GARDEN . BUT THERE WAS ONE IN SYRIA , WHICH WAS MADE BY A ASSYRIAN RULER FOR HIS PERSIAN WIFE . AT WHICH TIME HE HAD ALSO CONQUERED BABYLON

I think you will find it was Babylon that conquered Assyria. Assyria, Babylonian, Persian, Greek & Roman Empires.
