She doesn't serve shade. She catapults it into your face.
Welcome to Next of Ken and in this episode, we're counting down 17 Times Miranda Priestly From "Devils Wears Prada" Served The Realest Shade. Based off Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, Miranda Priestly is sharp, witty, sarcastic, and simply has no time for your... stuff. Never be late. Never ask questions. And get that Harry Potter manuscript, damn it, or you will never live it down with Miranda.

What's groundbreaking about this movie was a villain being so soft spoken and seemingly "polite".

miranda knew she had the power, she didnt need to raise her voice to be heard and obeyed. that made her interesting and more imposing and threatening but also as the movie goes on you discover that she had to develop that person to remain at the top had she been any other way she would have been knocked down and left for dead a long time ago.

what's even worse apart from having such a demanding boss is that she doesn't ever raise her voice. Miranda uses a soft but commanding voice, she doesn't need to make herself understood or intimidating by raising her voice or losing her temper.r Her attitude says everything about who she is and as her employee you know you'd better do your job perfectly for her o.O hats off to the writer of the character and to Meryl Streep for her brilliant portrayal of Miranda Priestly. It's one of my favourite performaces by her.

Noelia Killjoy I saw an interview with Meryl Streep in which she discussed her choice to always speak softly. Miranda Priestly: 'This stuff'? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select... I don't know... that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you're trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don't know is that that sweater is not just blue, it's not turquoise. It's not lapis. It's actually cerulean. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent... wasn't it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it's sort of comical how you think that you've made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.

Honestly, this is what I thought first when I watched the movie. But a lot of things got cleared and made sense after I watched the deleted scenes. If you get to see the deleted scenes, there is the one that happens right after this, when Andy goes to CK and Miranda gives her a call and explains(rather, guides!) what she is actually supposed to do their step-by-step. The thing is she doesn't waste her time by giving instructions first and then see people returning for doubts or forgetting them altogether. She instructs to go on the way and guides at the right time when you reach the point where further instructions are actually required. Another example, she has so much to take care of that she doesn't waste here time and energy in remembering unimportant people. Instead she has a diary for her assistants who take care of that.

Great actress but she deeply disappointed me regarding Harvey Weinstein. She is an industry leader. She has won many awards/accolades. Her career would NOT have been damaged if she had stood up against him even ten years ago. She had already won several Oscars. Women who could have had real shots at acting careers(Annabella Sciorra) were raped by him...and EVERYONE knew he was settling sexual harassment lawsuits for years. I wish Streep had stood up for other women.

you're wondering why i like this? Meryl is a true boss. every time she "scolded" people, in all situations, is pet peeves of most bosses. they look for independent free thinkers who get them. people who get the job done ✅ they ask and expect you to know what to do. the key to understanding Meryl's character is understanding what a boss does.... dealing with finances of the company, your workers, the products and services, meeting expectations and goals for monthly and yearly sales, not to mention, needing good reliable managers, assistance, and last but not least, people who take their job seriously with professionalism and a superior common sense, people who also mastered their trade. keep in mind she runs a fashion magazine that is one of if not the leading book in fashion mags. lot of pressure to produce, considering ladies and gents look to these books religiously. understandable in my view. to men, this is the "truckin" or import tuner or muscle or just pic your pleasure. i like superstreet, or used to.

She reminds me too much of my mother, lol! I can only remember her raising her voice once or twice my entire childhood. And after visiting her at work a few times, she tended to be just as dismissive with her employees, although slightly less viciously. And from that experience I can say that people like that have spent their whole lives perfecting the art of keeping people at a comfortable yet safe distance. People like that only see what value another person adds to their life. And anyone, especially their own children, experience the same freeze when they become a poor reflection on this type of narcissism. I can at least say that since my grandmother passed, my own mother has mellowed to a comfortable chilly level. I kind of doubt Miranda ever would.

I use lines from this movie all the time, even some excellent ones you did not list...when my partner gives me too quickly a list of a ton of things to do, I just interrupt him by asking " Should I call Patrick as well ?" ...and instantly he gets he has been too far... "Everybody wants to be us" is one of my favorites, though "Bore someone else with your questions" is also very useful. This movie is a delight.

I was thinking this as well. It's weird to read through the comments and see people praising this character, and some even wanting to be like her. She was a horrible person. Being confident and powerful does not mean that you have to be a hateful, snarky, mean-spirited witch like this. That type of behavior usually comes from someone who's actually insecure but trying to prove to the world (and herself) that she's not.

I find it so sad to live like this, keeping people at a distance and painting them as bumbling fools. It's a tragedy, really. She may be funny at times, but there's a lot of sadness and loneliness that must come from living like that. Some people choose their careers over other people, which is their decision, but they pay the price.

I believe is more about how outspoken these characters are and how they say what they want to say without fearing to be hated. We all would like to do that once or twice sometimes. Well, that´s why i like them lol. I think there are extreme characters but i actually like people who act like this sometimes, cause at least they are being honest...you know what you are getting into with them haha.

I don't think it's the character so much as it is Meryl Streep. Face it, the goddess can do no wrong. It doesn't matter what kind of character she portrays, the character will be loved simply because she was portrayed by Meryl Streep. Seriously. The woman deserves her own category for the oscars.

In all actuality, there was NO shade in those lines! Someone doesn't know what SHADE is! Did Miranda Priestly READ? She most assuredly did! As a New Yorker, I absolutely LOVE the character! I find this "behavior" essential for a woman, in a man's world, and a successful woman in a man's world! People seemed to look over the blatantly obvious! From the gate, Miranda saw potential in Andy and did all she could to bring out the very best in her! Personally, I applaud the movie! unfortunately, I had a film class as an elective and did a paper on The Devil Wears Prada! I thought the entire movie was empowering! Do people in the Fashion Industry really act like this? They most certainly do! Not all, but many! One definitely needs thick skin in order to work in the industry, if not, you'll be eaten alive!
