So, it wasn't that she wasn't being herself, she was, it was just her growing. Definitely a power move. Notice that the first time Andy corrects Miranda by telling her her name, Miranda smiles, rattles off requests a mile a minute (knowing Andy will totally forget), then calls her "Emily" again. Miranda starts calling her "Andrea" only when she's jumped through a million hoops and passed a million little tests. That's when Andy has earned her name back. When I was younger and the film was just released I hated Miranda and Andy for neglecting her friends. But I watched the film again and I realised the villain was not Miranda, she was the one teaching Andy the ins and outs of the industry. Andy's friends said she changed, what they didn't realise is that Andy was actually 'growing, learning and adapting' to a new atmosphere. Her friends and BF instead of supporting her were actually holding her growth, which put Andy into crossroads of a potential career path. People say Andy working atmosphere was toxic, I disagree, if you're working with the very best they have a set of standards that each must be expected, Andy was no exception. Miranda knew Andy had great potential thus she tested her out and proved she had what it takes. I realised her Friends and BF were the real Toxic ones. They never really wanted her to grow.
@lauraelizabethbrown2 жыл бұрын
I don't necessarily think Andy sucked. She was just young and in an industry she didn't understand. What I like about her was the moment she decided to stop playing the victim and decided to learn about the fashion world for the sake of her job. She made mistakes, but I also like that at the end she decided she had sold her soul to the industry and enough was enough. Her biggest flaw is going back to her toxic ex-boyfriend. Miranda was absurd, but I seriously love her.
@zitronentee2 жыл бұрын
@@jaydave1246 I think both sides are no villains. The film depicted Andy's friend as shallow. But I think there's more than that. Andy started as serious journalist in college. Of course her friends knew her and might expect Andy to stay the same path, but surprised that Andy took a job in fashion magazine. At first, they accepted it, but they also saw Andy drowning in her job and losing her old self and they didn't like to see her losing herself. Sure, Andy was become better at her job, but it didn't mean it's the career she wanted. So, at the end, Andy quit, find a new job that suit herself but still grateful of the experience with Miranda. It's the middle way. But yeah, tbh, her friends were overreacting in the movie.

@arielortiz5643 Жыл бұрын
Well, I don't think the friends and the boyfriend managed the situation in the best way, but there is also the fact that Andy didn't make herself clear. She would constantly say that she will make it to their parties, that she will make it up when she couldn't make it, then failing to do so again. Be it friendship or a romantic, every relationship has boundaries, some customs and things that are important. Andy broke too many boundaries. That circle of friends and Andy grew apart the moment she prioritized her work over her private life. She is free to do that, but her friends and boyfriend are free to like or dislike the changes too.
@jorgeserna8411 Жыл бұрын
So sick of people making moral and mental gymnastics to turn the friends and boyfriend into the villains: Andy wanted to be a journalist, a writer. Don't know if you watched the full movie, but in the end she actually ended up being happy out of that job her friends and boyfriend hated and spoke against.
@orangefruit12 Жыл бұрын
@@jorgeserna8411 and if it weren't for Miranda's cold referral on the job Andrea applied for at the ending, she wouldn't have been accepted either. Miranda helped Emily develop a good work ethic considering she used to only do the bare minimum from the start. Jobs are hard. What makes it even harder is when your supposed support system openly bullies, ridicules, and go against you for growing in a different phase than before. Unsupportive systems are what hinders a potential. Her bf and friends couldve approached her in the least toxic way possible when they knew from the start that she was struggling to get a job before she became Miranda's assistant. I don't romanticize toxic work culture but it is inevitable in reality. Fake it til you make and stand against your ground until you are able to adapt. The world will not cater to you just because you are falling vehibd. The least they couldve done was support Andrea and confront to her about it but instead they were the ones being inconsiderate and insensituve when she was struggling to adapt which by the way is a normal part of performance progress.

The thing about this was back in the day I hated Miranda... Then I grew up and realized she had a point. Everything she's done is to make sure she succeeds if she succeeds everyone in the company succeeds and if one other person is wasting away that opportunity they actually dont deserve a pat on the back. Yes she's cold and heartless but she has to be there is a lot of weight on her shoulders and she really just demands that people perform 110% cause its not just their lives but everyone acquainted with the company is affected you wanna make it big you have to work hard. You have to toughen up and not be a crybaby over the most mediocre setbacks.
@user-rq4bf3om1q2 жыл бұрын
I think that’s best highlighted when she chastised Andy over the belts. And at the end of the day she really just wanted everyone to do their best and to take their work seriously, the product she ends up putting out either uplifts or ruins everyone in the company and the investors of the company.

tip for you, work hard and be a professional like her, but don't act like her, no one deserves to work with someone having that attitude, put yourself on the others shoes, that's what a boss is, I'm a fashion designer and back in the past I used to have an attitude, I was a Diva, don't accepting anyone ideas and I was very insisive on my directions, but that does'nt work and everyone gonna get you as the bitch you are, and that's not cool, be humble, be pro active and determinated, get other people involved emotionally in the projects, and you'll get success in whatever you're doing, work as a team

i find it so fascinating how on one hand you have the comments saying how this is bad management and yet literally the most successful people, steve jobs, jeff bezos, mark zuckerburg, elon musk are just like miranda. If that actually were true dont you think that all these entrepreneurs would have had that approach? Yet their companies are still blooming
@makingmilkmiracle Жыл бұрын
@@shmeepness1700 companies like Amazon are basically slave factories, they're "blooming" because of exploitation, not to mention Bezos barely pays taxes (so does Elon Musk). The more money Amazon gets, the more they grow, then they destroy small businesses by their low prices (they can afford it once again by exploiting workers and the environment), make even more money, and it never ends. Basically any giant corporation is full of shit, but they can cover their sins with their wealth and PR. People say that money rules the world for a reason
