A big part of Wales is the drinking culture. Spending a lot of time in the pub/bar is a very popular pastime for many people. That’s the reason we have so many slang terms for being drunk in Wales. In this video I’m going to teach you 17 of the most popular slang words for having had too much to drink. These include words for being slightly drunk all the way to being very very drunk.

I'm watching this now. Assuming one can still speak whilst drunk, this is invaluable indeed! :)

@Learn Welsh Podcast - Speaking of "culture," could you explain Eisteddfodau to us? I think one of the biggest things for me (as an American) to wrap my head around is that Welsh poetry is taken as seriously as rugby, football, and choir singing! (Which is another thing that is very "different" to us).

My North Walian dad would say that so-and-so was “drunk as a lord”.

We use more than half of those in the states , although some are more likely to be found in old movies. Also I’ll give you a few from the US Navy FIVE ! sheets to the wind. 112d ( ucmj , uniform code of military justice article 112 , drunk on duty) Studying for the chief’s ( chief petty officer) exam Also I seem to struggle with English since I miss read ‘ how to say drunk ‘ as ‘ how to STAY drunk. ‘ slightly disappointed, but I understand it’s my fault.

Thanks! The irony is I don't drink! 😆But when I was in the UK it became apparent I was a minority, so the whole "drinking culture" tended to be lost on me doubly-so.

@@msbeaverhausen7226 I love the scenes in the rovers return where Ena, Martha Longhurst and Minnie Caldwell were gossiping about the other residents of Coronation street. Most of the time it would be Elsie Tanner they were gossiping about. And those shouting matches between Ena and Elsie were legendary.

No need to be rude about it😠 Welsh people actually use English all the time in colloquial language, so this video is relevant.
