I love when my doberman talks to me. Straight up looking me in my eyes and letting me know she’s either not happy, someone has her toy, or I haven’t sat down yet so she can nap on my lap. I’m sure it’s sassback cuz it’s like talking to my teenage daughter lol.

My Doberman (Rocco, may he now rest in peace) was a great problem solver. While walking along a trail in the park, there was a chain link fence along one side, as there were several geese on the other side. Well, the Chief Honcho male goose ran up to challenge my Rocco, squawking and chest all puffed up, knowing that my dog couldn't get to him because of the fence. Well, Rocco stood there for a moment, thinking. He then suddenly lifted his leg up and urinated through the fence, right onto Chief Goose's chest. That was one unhappy goose after that. Rocco and I just then calmly continued our walk. Loved that dog. God, I miss him so.

If I was setting on the ground pulling weeds or planting flowers my Dobie would come and set behind me. He would put his front paws on my shoulders and his head on my head. My neighbor said he had seen people wear a coon skin cap but never a Doberman cap. This boy has been gone for over 9 years and I still miss him. I've had Dobies since the 70's, best dogs ever.

My husband had back surgery and was recovering at home with our Doberman .Well when it was a month later my husband got the ok from Dr to go ahead and go back to work he left with his truck to do a couple roofing bids . He came home put his truck keys on side table by his recliner “ where they always are “ next day I get a call at work asking me if I know where his truck keys are ? I said well probably on the side table by your recliner He replied no I have looked everywhere, I said get your extra keys for now . Newt day he called me and said his extra keys are missing now I said they were on the side table last night ? My husband searched for 3 hours and could not find either set of the keys I told home when I get home tonight we will tear house apart they got to be some where. I came home after work went upstairs on landing and stared at Brady our Doberman “ he did not know I was watching him” I saw him get off his couch and go to the side table and grabbed my husbands check book in his mouth and went into other room and jumped onto another couch and shoved that check book hard into the back corner of seat cushion, pulled his head out then jabbed it way in there pushing it further into corner of couch , he did that like 3 times then jumped down and went into other room and layed down I snuck downstairs and reached way deep into that corner and got check book and two sets of the missing truck keys ! So I’m telling you all these Dobies are soo smart . “ he did not want my husband to leave the house “. It worked. We never let Brady know We found his hiding spot , so we could always check there fir other missing items. We have had Dobermans since I was 15 I’m 65 now , we miss them all so much , they each had there own loving personality and their own unique stories. I love your channel I think we will have to get another Doberman.

My girl did a lot of those things and I miss it all so much. She also used to steal loaves of bread, hotdog rolls, hamburger buns, off the counter and take them to the couch and sleep on them. She never tore the bags open or damaged them, she just slept on them and flattened the heck out of them. She also “smiled” when she got nervous or she knew she did something naughty. I miss her a lot❤

Over the years, my family have had everything from Jack Russell’s to Neapolitan and Old English Mastiffs. Every one of them was loved, but my current Doberman is something apart. He is so viciously clever, beautifully sensitive/ perceptive. I swear he can sometimes see directly into my very soul. Caveat, these beautiful dogs demand a lot by way of return. They must be exercised, entertained, amused and properly loved. If you ever encounter a snappy, wary, aggressive Dobe, it is 100% the owners conditioning. These dogs are so aware and as sensitive as litmus. My lad is just 10 months, his favourite treats are destroying plastic bottles and playing tennis. Chasing balls, then refusing to return. Don’t get one of these dogs if you don’t fit Into their lifestyle. It’s not fair on them. Otherwise, my pup’s the best dog out there.

Jacob goes where i go, that means Sams club, local grocery store Dr. Appointment and i am constantly getting stopped by people that share their stories of the Doberman they had in the past. Jacob brings so much joy and good memories to everyone that sees him. He was born in Hawaii traveled all the way to Florida in Lexus gx 470, now GX 460 . Without counting you tube Jacob is probably 1 of the most famous Doberman as he has touched hearts all the way across the nation.

I am new to the world of Dobermans. Our pup Luna is 4 months now and I can already recognise so many traits. Absolutely love her to bits. The socks in a safe is a must. I don’t know what it is, but even when she is fast asleep and hears the washing basket open, Luna is fighting her way in to get a sock and then proceeds to do a victory lap around our kitchen 😂 I love your videos John you have helped shape so many of my dogs behaviours already. I’ve had one years ago. I like the fact that they’ll groom themselves more than a cat would and then they’ll come over and groom you. Of course the little nibbles or pinchy bites that most of the time feel like tickles. The look they make when you itch their ears and you hit the right spot and they’ll let you know to keep going.

I'm a newer subscriber, I found doberman planet while conducting research on the breed and now I am a future european doberman mom. (I pick my little dude up in 4 weeks!) Watching your videos, trying to get as prepared as possible for this new partner in crime and I have to say, these videos are peaking my excitement and making me quite restless as I wait for him to be 8 weeks and ready to join our family. I'm keeping in mind that this is certainly the calm before the storm. Puppies are like infants! I know we have a long way to go, but I am so so thrilled to be able to experience the outcome of raising and training a euro dobie. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge with us!!!

A doberman shaped hole in the heart hurts really bad. We love your videos, and this one was spot on. I dont know if you have ever seen it, but my first doberman used to sit on the couch like people. My dobie Diesel passed all 17 traits with flying colors. My 18 month old boy has never even tried to get on furniture or the bed but definitely puts that head and nose on the bed or in your face or lap. Dang, a gun safe for the socks! Fabulous idea since my boy has mastered opening the sock drawer and empties it all over the floor to find the perfect pair but only steals one pair at a time. Then he prances through the house with his trophy. Thanks for sharing.

I had a Doberman / German Shepherd mix. My daughter named her Sizzle because of her black fur. She was the smartest and sweetest dog that I have ever met. She weighed about 85 pounds and could smile and laugh. We had gone to a ball game or somewhere and the dog and my daughter had a couple hotdogs. They were both in the backseat of my Jeep and my daughter was telling some story and was using hand gestures. Sizzle was tracking the waved hot dog and reached over it bit it off just above my daughter's hand. When my daughter started to take another bite she said "hey" and glared at Sizzle, and the dog was so cute, she just kinda shrugged her shoulders in a "Ya shouldn't waved it in front of my face". It was hilarious. - The retired accountant

I think I really started loving Dobies when as a kid I met one who took care of foster kittens! My mind was blown cuz I had heard such bad things about anything regarding guard-dog breeds before that. The Dobie "foster parent" was a part of a farm near my house, strangely enough there were a lot of Dobies and Rottweilers around my area at the time. But this was the first one I met (I met the rotties after haha), and I'm glad for that experience. Can't wait to get Dobies in the near future!

Great video! The Doberman eye contact is very cool! I had a male named Demon and his nickname was The Truth because people would visit and he would look into their eyes and they would say they felt like he was Ghost Rider and he was judging them for their sins! It wasn’t his fault they had a guilty conscience! My female, K’Ehleyr, was convinced everyone was here to feed her and love her, in that order! She’d walk over, slide just her butt on the edge of the couch to set beside them to wait for the food and love! People thought I was kidding when I explained what she was doing. When they saw her leave after she got food and love they’d ask how I trained her to do that. I didn’t, that was just her personality.

Our dog does all of these behaviors. I've never had a dog until now; he's 2 years old and I honestly never thought I'd be so in love with him. Just a question about letting your Dobe on the couch. I've seen so much info. about how dominant this breed is and in the beginning wouldn't allow him on the couch because I was told he would think he's the alpha and he'd be harder 11:27 to train. Now he won't even get on the couch if invited. Do you think that's true that he is less likely to do as told? I see you allow yours on. Just curious. Thanks.

My Dobie hates it when I’m on my phone! She pushes & bites at it to get it away from me😂. There really isn’t any creature quite like the Doberman! They’re truly the most loyal and loving dog breed.

All those things you have just mentioned are true to my Dobermans too. No matter where I am they are too. Even tried sneeking out of the house when they are fast asleep but with in minutes they find me and lie down next to me. Bert South Africa.

Ahhhh this explains my almost 5 month old Mountain Cur-Doberman mix baby. Leans into me, eye contact to the max, so confident and even at 8 weeks old she thought she ruled the house. My Greyhound explained the facts of life, took her down and held her down as if to say "chill!" but Freyja bounced up again as happy as a lark. She is so smart I had to do a DNA test - she was already figuring out how to manipulate my training and she was only 4 months old! Her mom was the full Dobie and her dad brought Cur with a dash (17%) of Husky and a pinch of Bloodhound (8%). I'm so happy to know her cute traits are from her mom's side of the family, since outwardly she takes after her dad 😂

Our 10 year old Dobie Zelda was just as you described. Her partner in crime and best friend for 5 years was our 5 year old Mini Schnauzer, Lili. Last March, Zelda snapped for no apparent reason and grabbed our precious Lili by the throat and proceeded to shake herr to death. Although she was well trained there was nothing we could do to stop her. Lesson learned, never get a small dog with a large dog. I found out that this is not uncommon. It was devastating and we are hearbroken.

Here is one to add to your list. If you think putting your hands in your pockets will deter the dog from being petted on the head... Oh no! The smart dobbie will nudge your hand out of the pocket and right on their head!!! So funny, my Dobie always did that to my brother in law. LMAO

I have to laugh 😃. My 1st meeting a Doberman was in my apt building elevator. The neighbors doberman walked in elevator, I must admit I felt all the blood drain from my head w fear. Oh the doberman sat on my feet and leaned into my legs. The owner nervously saying no he's ok, I'm sorry he's a leaner . 😄😆👍

I have 2 greyhounds and it’s pretty wild how similar they are to a lot of these behaviors. The leaning, eye contact, hiding, laying on top, etc. They have pretty much all these traits, except no protection instincts, whatsoever 😂 They even kind of look like Dobermans (in body/head shape, anyway.)

I had a 4-way breed for 15 years (Rip Mosse) (german shepherd, welsh ss, Toller and finnish hound, lol) and he was almost exaclty like this, didnt come with his toys. It was a fantastic dog, and now its 24 days till I pick up my very first "working" Dobermann. Its gonna be some fun years ahead.
