I found about this car by chance in my recommended and thought it was absolutely amazing. I mean the dedication and attention to detail is absolutely astounding. Then I found a video of the builder explaining the story and I was even more humbled and once again put into perspective (as how I always try to live myself, looking at something from another perspective). But hey I still have massive respect for the work done and truly appreciate the man behind this.

I remember meeting Ken who built the car, when he came over to my old house years ago, he wanted to get some measurements off my Prova Countach. He also had a friend of my son's named Kevin a machinist, build the centers for the first wheels that Ken had on the car.

So, here's a question. How does one register a hand-built car constructed in a basement over 17 years? There wasn't an existing VIN to operate off of, because it's not a normal kit car.
@yerlinita2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Different states have different laws. Most states require an inspection of the car along with paperwork and receipts showing where the parts came from. In the state of Florida, they do a safety dot inspection and make sure there are no stolen parts on the car. You will need to provide a certificate or origin for the chassis. If you build the chassis yourself, receipts of all the material used to build it as well. Engine # and transmission # must be on receipts. Affidavit signed stating you built the car yourself. They will issue a title branded ASPT . Assembled by parts vehicle.

@@yerlinita Thanks.I've been a lifelong Lamborghini fan. I'm also a mechanical engineer with an automotive background. But building a Countach in the basement is beyond me. Someday I'd like to build a kit car (Miata based Ariel Atom like vehicle). Glad to see Imhoff's car is in good hands.

The body is amazing. The interior not so much. I'd have installed inner fender liners to protect against road debris. Also the gas tank up front isn't a good idea from a safety perspective.
