Instead, listen for locks that impressed him, that he would consider acceptable, or that he would consider using. So impressive, and so beautifully analog. I mean, digitization must have been involved in the lock's design and manufacture -- in the distribution systems that brought the lock into your possession -- and of course it is key (rimshot) to your videoing and youtubing. But the actual picking is all offline! Ahhh, analog! What a relief! Thank you!

@sfsaviation
@sfsaviation 3 жыл бұрын
I guess it just makes it a pain in the ass to re-lock? If a less experienced picker manages to spend a good few minutes getting it opened they're not gonna risk getting caught picking it back closed to make it less obvious someone was just robbed. If its on a storage container that doesn't get checked on a daily basis you might not notice it was broken into until weeks or even months after, and security footage might be long gone by then.

@@chance2smoke Fair enough but my point still stands. If you think its a big enough risk of someone locking you in by mistake the lock is small enough to just pocket while your inside. There's also the fact that nobody is going to lockpick a lock closed by accident security pins or no. you have to intentionally do that at which point if they want to lock you in they could slap their own lock on there.

Great info on that unusual padlock. How is the bitting on the one that picked so easy? Can it explain the difference? The second bible - well, why is it of any advantage to remove the key when the lock is open? It's not like a padlock with a spring loaded shackle that can be pushed to close without a key. Also, the second bible has spools and it's a different pin set up. Do they randomly pin them up. If yes, then this could explain your easy pick on the other.

@snoopdogie187

if they used the pin one in the main bible, you couldn't remove the key in the open postion unless it was the shortest pin of ever other one. When the key comes out, it pushes the pins up, and since the second bible on the lock doesn't have a pin 1 place, that pin would hit the top of the lock in front of the bible and the key can't be pulled out.

Before you gut this, I'm going to make a guess that the "regular" bible contains security pins, while the "unlocked" bible only contains standard pins. To me that would make sense as you'd want it to be hard to pick open, but who cares about picking it closed -- that feature is just to allow removal of the key. Now to hit play and see if I guessed correctly.

@bdf2718
@bdf2718 6 жыл бұрын
Let's take this in stages. Why spool pins in the secondary bible? To make it harder to pick if you want to lock it when you don't have a key? Doesn't make much sense, especially as spool pins are more expensive. To simplify assembly so that to populate a particular slot in both bibles you grab two pins from the same bin? Maybe, but I figure it's cheaper not to do that. To reduce errors when pinning up that mean the key doesn't work with both bibles? Maybe. Except the one you disassembled had some plain pins in the second bible where the first bible had spools. So no satisfactory answer. Why two bibles? So you can take the key out when it's open. Simples. Why would you want to take the key out when it's open? To stop some idiot locking it again. For example, if the lock is protecting some sort of walk-in enclosure. You don't want somebody locking it without realizing you're inside. You don't want to carry the padlock around to prevent that, because it's bulky and a little heavy and might be extremely cold. This lock solves that problem. About the best answers I can come up with. Of course, you could always write to them and ask them, but that's cheating. :)

Just one possible answer: When our company was buying new locks to be deployed at hundred or even thousands of locations as a security upgrade, many of the trade craft workers insisted on removable keys. I never heard a good reasons, but it they were adamant about it. In the end, the manufacturer provided key retaining locks, but I don't know if that was a mistake or what we actually ordered. But i could see a run of locks being made for a large purchase if the buyer had this as a required spec. Maybe yours is just one that is left over.

What's the point of a secondary "bible", especially if it can't stop LPL???

Why would they bother putting spools in the secondary bible? Is there really a danger of somebody trying to pick the lock CLOSED? I don't understand.

I think it is so someone can notice it was picked into. In order to close it, you will have to pick it again If you can pick it open and close it back afterwards, no one may know it was ever picked into in the first place.

Or they could just not open it all the way 'cause rarely does a disc lock need to be opened all the way to get it off whatever it's on

This lock could have a different key to unlock and lock it.

No, The top of the core pins have to be at the shear line when into the cut of the key, that is the same in both positions. When you add a master wafer to the a pin, than always it is nessesary to lock with exactly the same key, you opened it. Let me put just one master wafer in one pinstack, than you may use 2 different keys, one with a deeper cut in this position. When you now open the lock with the key with the not so deep cut, the master wafer will stay into position 1 . If you than want to lock with the second key with that deeper cut, the driver pin of bible 2 will block the shearline, you only can use the same key to lock. If you than unlock with that key with the deeper cut, you will transfer the master wafer to bible 2. When you than use the key with that not so deep cut to lock, the master wafer will remain in position 2 than, and you only can unlock with this key again.

@@peterwiegel4778 You can lock most locks without the key under certain conditions. How about a key that unlocks a lock, but the resting position is where all the driver pins are partially depressed and can be rotated to the locked position. Again, heck wafers in this scenario.

@@JonathanTuckner Think about your idea, for a lock, as these disk locks, with that circular shackel, that is over some kind of a gear hardly connected to the lock-core, so that this cannot turned around for 360 ° it is impossible topull the key out without a 2nd bible in that stop position. And, as the keyis pulled out, the core cannot move backwards,to close that lock without the key in place
