1700 miles in a Tiny Speedboat - 24

We're back at it in our circumnavigation of the UK in a very tiny boat. It's a long way but the end is nearly in sight.

In this episode i'm joined by previous co-pilot, Fogg, as we head South from the River Tyne and Newcastle towards Yorkshire, Staithes and a night in Runswick Bay. We pop into Whitby, visit Lee and the RNLI lifeboat team in Scarborough before heading to Hornsey and Spurn head.

Something i've been looking for for a while, this is a very lightweight and compact packraft made by MRS that we are able to pack into Goodwin whilst still being a very practical Kayak. I'd definitely recommend a packraft from Paqualife if you're looking for a tender for a very small rib like Goodwin. Ours is a big Barracuda 2-person but a one person might be ideal if you're looking just to get the captain to shore and back again without taking up too much valuable space.

Back in 2021 this series convinced me to buy my own boat, I’ve watched every episode since I discovered it…only to miss you guys visiting the actual marina where my boat is moored! I'm so sad that this is almost over. Originally I thought you were just going to power through and get it done quickly. However I'm glad that it has taken so much time, that you stop and give interesting information and history. My grandmother is originally from England, so I have visited a few times. However I would never have learned so much about the remote parts of the country.

My dad used to work in the factory opposite where you put in on the Tyne, back when that was the Vickers tank factory. My high school was just north of there in Benwell. My brother and cousins used to be in the Sea Scouts on the Tyne too. The river is a hell of a lot cleaner than when I was a kid. OH MY GOD! Greggs Stotties! Hi Harry, I have been watching your progress right from the start. My father, Stanley used to run a sailing school on the Swan River, Perth, Western Australia with twenty new Zealand P class yachts and two zodiacs. The zodiacs were great for instructing the children and pulling them from the water when things went wrong. Your boat has been transformed into wonderful sleak machine. Perhaps, you could come to Australia and circumnavigate it like Matthew Flinders. Most Brits haven't a clue who Matthew Flinders was which is terrible. There's not even a statue of him in Brittain. He named Australia! Anyhow, I found an aluminium bouy with Grimsby embossed on it washed up on Flinders bay.

You can usually use those air pumps in reverse to quickly deflate the canoe. If the one you have does not do that take a look for one that does. It works very quickly. Thanks for another excellent tour of the UK.
