Ive been watching your chimney build videos and your knowledge and skill in this trade is unmatched. Ive been doing alot of research on fireplace construction and im planning on building a fireplace on my outdoor timberframe pavilion. 60 inches wide 36 inches tall. Probaly go 40 after seeing this fireplace. Hearth will be at grade level and i want to come out with 2 short walls in front for a rotisserie to roast lamb for easter. My question is on sizing the flue on a fire place that wide should i go with 2 flue or one single large flue. Chimney will be 15ft high and folowing the 1/8th rule flue should be 16x20? If i can even get a liner that size would it be easier to brick up 2 flues?

Thank you! I’m very flattered. Definitely stay with one single flue, I’ve never been a fan of the shotgun style flue system; too many problems. You shouldn’t be fine if your flue is 1/10th the fireplace opening, or if you use a round flue, 1/12th the opening. The only thing against you is the total height, the more height the better the draft. Because you’re outside, I wouldn’t expect any problems either way.

Are any of those fireplaces actually safe to have a fire in? I’d even be weary of an insert with all the lumber behind the walls😮

They all have zero clearance liners installed.
