"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.

Hi Patrick, lovely little hike. I get what you are saying about the kids. I love that the next generation is now experiencing the beautiful Lakes and Peaks but I find a lot very loud. Good afternoon, Patrick.this was a beautiful walk. We have only ever been to the lakes many years ago with our kids. It revolved around Windermere Lake. I remember an enormous swan came ashore and did a big squirty poop 💩 from over a metre away that just missed me because I saw it coming and shot off my seat. 🤣🤣🤣

Cracking video Patrick. My first visit to the Lake District was a week long stay from 01st to 08th October 1976 - part of a Geography O level field trip. Visited the lakes many times since then - our last visit was just a couple of weeks ago where we stayed in a Bothy located in Caldbeck. If you get the chance, plenty of good walks around there😂😂😂😂😂😂

I’ve been looking forward to watching your Lake District adventures and you certainly picked a lovely location for a first walk. Ambleside is a lovely location for a stay. Some lovely pubs and restaurants along with plenty of walks from the doorstep. I tend do similar you yourself by leaving the car parked up as much as possible. It’s nice to have a break from driving isn’t it? Hope the weather wasn’t too bad for the rest of your trip

Thanks Anthony, I knew this day was going to be the best weatherwise, so I chose to film this short walk whilst I could. I've always liked Orrest Head even though it's a more lowland walk in the Lakes. Ambleside was a great base that week. As you say, lots of pubs and restaurants, and great walks from there too, a couple of walks I did manage to film. It was certainly nice to have a break from driving and I spent a couple of days riding on the buses for a £9 ticket, so that was really enjoyable. It turned out wetter after this day on Orrest head, but I still had a great week thanks 👍

That was wonderful but I wouldn't have expected anything less. What a terriffic viewpoint Orrest head is, views to die for so its hardly surprising that its so popular. I've not been to windermere since I was about 10 I think so its 47 yeaars ago!! Last time I was in the lakes was when my kids were little, more than 20 years ago so this video has inspired me to return. I am dying to know did you film any more walks on your holiday Patrick? Morning Mark, haha yeah I've always had the first full week in September off work once kids are back in school, always a good time to get away, although the Lake District was still pretty busy during my week here. Amazing that Orrest Head started off all of Wainwright's books wasn't it. I don't think I was aware of the Wainwright connection when I made my first visit there all those years ago. I'm sure I climbed Orrest Head at the time because it was close to Windermere railway station, from where I alighted, then I would have walked on to the YHA from there. Had a great rest of the week thanks, did manage to film two more walks, and spent the other days riding on the buses which was pretty awesome. Thanks for watching and commenting Mark as always. Patrick, I think if you did a video showing the areas where they filmed Withnail and I (Penrith etc) It would bring a lot of interest to your channel as it’s a popular cult favourite!

However, you've mentioned Withnail and I before and seem determined to get me to film around Penrith because of that film 😊 As I've said before I don't remember much about that film and I have no plans to film in Penrith. I wish I had the time to film everywhere people suggested, and it would be great if the films I do make are appreciated 👍
