An incredibly powerful piece. The sad and harsh reality is that these incidents will continue to occur, particularly as electrification is rolled out in new areas where wires have not previously existed. @@chriswaring5565 electrical "surges". Do not cause electricity to jump at you lol. And there's circuits in place to arrest high voltage spikes from lightning strikes. It wouldn't melt the cable either. It would either go through a lightning arrestor circuit or jump the insulators to the post. The cables will only "come down" if the hardware holding them up fails. And they will come down vertically. Gravity right. Not onto you. If one of the cables came down on a train the metal body of the train would conduct to ground. The rails are ground. The wheels connect ground to the body of the train. So the people in the train would be absolutely fine. And in fact even someone touching the metal body of the train standing on the platform would be fine too.

This looked so realistic. And this is the most important warning about overhead lines or 3rd rail electrification - don't trespass onto the railway, and definitely don't touch the 3rd rail or the OHLE (if either are present) - both are lethal enough to cause serious injury or death. Especially the 25kV AC overhead lines. Just think about it. 25,000V AC. That's over 100x the voltage delivered to residential homes. I use the trains to commute every day. I would never dream of doing anything like that because I know the risks. And this film was really emotional to myself as well - I understand just how devastating it would be for someone to know that a loved one has lost their life due to being electrocuted by 3rd rail or OHLE. Just stay away from the railway tracks, it really isn't worth risking your life.

The same thing in New Zealand, the Palmerston North-Hamilton (Te Rapa) section of the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) became electrified at 25kV 50Hz AC as well as the Auckland suburban network, whereas the Wellington suburban network is still on 1500V DC. Both the Otira-Arthur's Pass section of the Midland Line (MLL) and the Christchurch-Lyttelton section of the South Island Main Trunk (SIMT) used to be electrified at 1500V DC, but now had been taken down since 1970 and 1997.

@josephhall1995 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, that's right, railways, including main lines and high speed lines are not playgrounds, because you could get hit by a train, or even get electrocuted by either the overhead cables and also with third rail and this will have devastating impacts on people's families and their friends as well. Especially with Eddie, Ali and Jerome were trespassing on the railway and then Jerome got electrocuted and died and Jerome's brother thought it was Eddie's fault as well I think! Also, to note on that, you must not touch any person who's been electrocuted by the overhead cables or the third rail, as the current passes through them, you could risk yourself being electrocuted. You should call the police or any team member of Network rail.

Railways are massively dangerous places to be on foot, that’s why the railway professionals (who have to be there) take such elaborate precautions. It strikes me as extremely alarming that anyone would voluntarily trespass in this way and that this film should be necessary.
@harrypatrick31266 ай бұрын
It's weird how in this country we perceive it that way. Railways in this country typically have trains doing no more than 125mph. The local railway has trains doing 90mph. Being hit by a train doing 70mph wouldnt be all that different to being hit by a car doing 70mph and you have probably stood feet away from those just like you stand feet away from speeding trains on the platform. In switzerland they take fencing around railways much less seriously. In many other countries they do. And in a way it kinda makes sense. A common sense approach to your safety near a railway is required. Like when you go through one of those gate crossings in the countryside. The ground electrification on some lines makes it more dangerous but most railways in this country have overhead electrification. I think a big part of the precautions with "railway professionals"> Is because often they are actually concentrating on their work and not lookign out for trains so they need other people to be looking out for the trains while they sort out the track and stuff.

Same in New Zealand, we have 25kV 50Hz AC overhead wires for electrification on Kiwrail's national rail network. The Palmerston North-Hamilton (Te Rapa) section of the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) became electrified at 25kV when the Brush Tracton-Built EF Class (Class 30) electric locomotives were introduced to NZR between 1986 and 1988, 27 years later in 2013, the Auckland suburban rail network was also electrified at the same voltage as NIMT, where Auckland Transport (AT) introduced the Spanish CAF-built AM Class electric multiple units (EMU). However, amazingly the Wellington suburban network that runs under the transport brand, Metlink, is still on its 1500V DC system since the late 1930's, the same as the Otira-Arthur's Pass section of the Midland Line (MLL) in 1923 and the Christchurch-Lyttelton section of the South Island Main Trunk (SIMT) in 1927, both of them were taken down as diesel locos replace all of the English Electrics (EO, EC, ED EW and DM class locos and EMU's) as well as the Toshiba EO class locos and Ganz Mavag EM class EMU's in 1970 and 1997. Both the English Electric DM Class and the Ganz Mavag EM Class EMU's were both eventually replaced by Hyandai Rotem-built FP Class "Matangi" EMU's in 2007. Although, I've heard that Kiwirail is apparently ordering new state-of-the-art Stadler Flirt160 EMU's for Metlink in Wellington, the Swiss rolling stock manufacturer building the new DM class diesels, so they'll eventually plan to uprgrade the electrification from 1500V DC to 25kV AC. In the future, Kiwirail might eventually have some of the lines in the South Island electrified, upgrade their ageing fleet and order Siemens Vectron locos from Germany for the electrified South Island routes.

Not all of them were mad at Eddie. Still, those that were blamed him for Jerome's death based on the former being a bad influence. But whilst he was stupid to trespass on the railway, so were Jerome and Ali. Even if it was Eddie's idea to take that route, they still should've known not to go along with him. There's no excuse at their ages to be that irresponsible. Fortunately Jerome's mother had the right idea not to blame Eddie when he didn't properly cause Jerome's death. Then again, it's sadly a realistic scenario in which people are blinded by fear, bias and sentimentality, especially when someone close to them dies.

Then wait for the driver to approach you, do NOT approach the train on your own initiative. If you trespass on the railway line (without reasonable excuse) you can expect an arrest and prosecution in addition to risking serious injury or death so it's best NOT to even consider doing it except in a dire emergency. @@josephhall1995 We don't have third rail in Merseyside... all electrified routes (with the exception of Merseyrail) use overhead. Anyway I totally agree with you. They are both to blame.
@josephhall19954 жыл бұрын
some person on planet earth yep I agree with you as well most of the UK are overhead wires but whereas merseyrail and southern region it’s third rail same with northern city line south of Drayton park and Watford DC line

Leah Henry it’s called 18 because Jerome, the person who died, was 18 most likely, showing that age doesn’t matter, when it comes to death

@@blingdaddy3724: I thought it was called "18" because it was the girl's 18th birthday (and it was the balloon they got for her which killed him), no?

Great put it on TV and social media influencers tube ads . Stop arguing about realism of the scenario as your making yourself sound like you are not intelligent to understand the dangers yourself . Great work network rail .
