For me, the novelty wears thin rather quickly with that era of game. I owned and adored the 800xl back in the 1980s. Huge fan, but much of the appeal of a unit like this would be the allure of nostalgia to elicit warm tingles of youth. There are exceptions, but few, in terms of the old Atari games having any sort of longevity today. With Atari 50, I flicked through and played most of the 8 bit games for a few minutes and never bothered returning. I don't really see where a unit like this has a place in the contemporary market, other than an avid collector of all things retro wanting a shiny new box for their shelf. Each to their own though and still, fond memories endure regardless.

So mine's arriving tomorrow, I'm pretty excited...I'd definitely recommend adding Gremlins to your system as well. Now I wonder when they'll announce an Atari ST Mini...

@@CrazyBurger - Really? I'm pretty sure that there's a working ST emulator included in the Pandory mod for the A500 Mini, I haven't tried it out yet though so I really couldn't say how well it works...

@@JohnnyProctor9 in my experience the emulation isn't great. But with a little work it would work. Most just default to amiga instead

I hope to add aftermarket games; I expect those to include great games. I have zero experience with Atari 8-bits, so everything will be all new to me anyway, though. Except Lee.

ThisIsPete KZbin channel identified another 6 games from the trailer. These are Airball, Battlezone, Crystal Castles, Elektra Glide, Henry's House & Seven Cities of Gold. Keep up the awesome work! :-)

I have all of the Mini consoles and have no interest in this one. I have played the games by emulation and feel the games should stay in the past. Atari 8 bit is just too far back where they are just crap and waste of time playing. I can also see problems with playing 5200 games where the controllers are different just like I have had with the emulation. I think the Gamestation pro is better than this for someone who want to play the games.

I would love to know how often these devices are actually used after purchase. Once the novelty wears thin, these would be resigned to a shelf. I don't see them as being collectable either, in the sense of being able to sell them on at a later date for profit. It's a really odd section of the market pitched more to the 50+ crowd (like me) ...

@@JB.zero.zero.1 I use my various minis on a regular basis - I swap out between them for a couple of weeks at a time, but enjoy my time with them as I'm not a big fan of modern gaming (I'm a similar age to you, gonna be 50 in June) and in the case of a couple of the minis I'm playing what are, for me, new (older) games. It's a hobby I enjoy.

@@JB.zero.zero.1 this isn't for you. This is for all the members of the third most vibrant retro community with monthly new homebrew game releases. Game releases never really stopped after the commercial life of the system. This platform also happens to be the first in modern upgrades for the real hardware.(retro lemon UK). This original model is rare in Europe and everyone would like one for their collections and to hook them on their modern tvs.
