Dam I wish I had watched this before I bought a Starlink Residential system. I kept watching the Influencer videos and figured the Low end speed was about 50 Mbps. I finally Mast Mounted it at 5pm today after 3 hours of work, I wanted it high so there where no obstructions. I was really blown away when it registered between 150-300 Mbs. After about 20 or more speed tests I decided to get some other work done and came back to it at 8:30pm only to get 10Mbps !! WTF !! It's now 11pm EST on a Saturday and it's still hovering at 10-15Mbs. I kept on thinking something must be wrong, until I found your video and a few other Posts on Reddit. If I had known I would be getting ADSL speeds at prime time I would not have wasted my money. Dam I just got caught by the marketing hype and my stupidity at not checking out the less popular YT channels which BTW are typically the only ones that have information that is real and not hyped. Thanks for the video, I can stop searching for the issue. I will give this a week and if still giving me numbers like this when I need it the most I am returning it.

Unfortunately, most influencer channels do a single test here or there. I don’t think they do it on purpose, but there’s a huge difference between peak hours and non-peak hours. I hate to tell you this, but Sunday night is by far the worst. It is getting better for me now here in GA, but not 100Mbps fast. For me, even the occasional 10Mbps is worth it because my alternatives are even slower.

@@brainhomestead6 I think you may have a connection issue. I was up until 2am and the speed never came back up. This morning at 10am it was still about 10-12 Mbs and I got really suspicious, so I first deleted the WiFi connection from my phone and made a new one and logged back in. The speed was back to around 180-220 Mbs !! I then finished the work on the Ethernet connection and noticed that for some odd reason it is around 140 Mbs when the same test on my phone 1 min later is always 40 Mbs faster. I then tried my Orbi Wifi router and that was even faster than the direct Wifi coming off the Starlink. Bottom line is that there is some kind of issues with the WiFi built into the Starlink and also the way it handles Ethernet. I am going to start working on this when I get some time but so far I can say that the 12Mbs is a sign that something is not right. I saw another guy on Reddit saying the same thing. A constant 10-12 Mbs DL speed and he has no idea why.

@@Dreadlk hmm, mine doesn’t last in perpetuity, only during peak times. I work from home so all day I’m 80-180Mbps, it only drastically slows down from 6pm-11pm.

@@brainhomestead6 Wow it is sad to see that Starlink will over sell a location to that extent. It is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out over the long run. Musk has a lot of issues stacked against him. Roughly 50% of the time the Satellites are over the Ocean and generating zero revenue and then he has two of the biggest markets, China and India plus Russia that do not seem to be interested in the system. That means he is going to need a lot of Satellites zipping around to serve a very small part of the Planet where the customers are. Every launch is about 80 million dollars, and you have to write a check from one company to another for at least 60 million of that. Plus with all of these satellites only having a 5 year life Span it is mind boggling how the math will play out. BTW I do not think the lifespan is related to the Hardware but it's more about the fuel needed to maintain such a low orbit.

@@Dreadlk I think you’re right. It’s getting better here and I think he’ll be ok, especially once Starship starts delivering satellites. They’re making approximately $120M per month right now, which will keep going up. They do sell maritime StarLink packages and they’re way more expensive. Something like $5k per month to use it at sea.

Got mine in the mail today and got set up. Unfortunately, we don't have many great spots with no obstructions within the 75 ft cable. I think I'll have to get a 150 ft cable and mount it on my 35ft tower to get above most of the trees. My issue is that it's been cutting in/out about ever couple minutes. I've seen as high as 110mbs, but generally around 40mbs. On the low side, I've been getting around 6-9 which is still 2x the speed I was at. Upload is outstanding at 6-8mbs+ Anyway, looking promising here. Thanks again for the videos and input.

No problem! I commented on one of your videos today. With this video, it is 1080p and took 2 minutes and 35 seconds to upload the whole thing! You’ll really like the upload. I had exactly one narrow place on my roof that I could put the dish without obstructions. The app is very valuable for checking obstructions.

@@brainhomestead6 absolutely! Very helpful. I'm very surprised that where I have it in the filed is giving issues. The obstruction finder is fully blue except for a few spots around the edges and a small dot on the middle. Idk, but I'll get it figured out. Definitely looking forward to the upload speed increase for my videos. I'm building out a shopify store currently and plan to have associated short videos there so it's going to be a huge help.

@@GraceAppliance I’m finishing up another video right now that’s 16 minutes long, should upload in 5 minutes or less. I’m jealous of your subscriber base!! I think if more than 1% of viewing space has an obstruction it tells you to move the dish.

@@brainhomestead6 thanks! Only about 5% of my views come from subscribers and get around 40k views a month but really need to get back in to it now with the better connection. I'm working on an affiliate link site that will be my honest opinion of the more popular appliances available today, the most common parts to break, and recommendations about what to buy. I figure that every person watching my channel has a broken appliance and a certain % of those will be in the market for a new one should they not be able to repair theirs. It will also have a quiz that will help narrow down my recommendations based on what they're looking for. Anyway, we'll see how it goes, but I'm excited about it. Building it has been more time than I'd given it credit for. Lol

@@GraceAppliance I’m a Samsung snob. I get all of my appliances in their black stainless color. The problem is that these appliances keep getting more and more sophisticated. It’s getting to the point where you just troubleshoot to a board and replace the board which is 40% the cost of just buying a new appliance! I’m a do-it-yourself type person since I grew up on a farm in Iowa, so I’ll always try to fix it myself first. KZbin is good for troubleshooting!

No, it’s Best Effort Version. Both Best Effort and RV are on the same Basic Access level of data flow, so they should be basically the same thing.

@@brainhomestead6 So it means both offers are deprioritized. It's still fine but it's extremely expensive in compare to LTE or 5G and price is very variable. I live in Poland where is not much remote areas without good LTE signal but it's nice to see that very remote places can have good access to the internet.

@@Lukasz3332x yeah it is more expensive than other options, but there are some very remote places where it’s StarLink or nothing.
