I mean I personally wouldn’t have a problem with letting multiple children going to a few rides by themselves like if I have a 10-14year old and a7 year old who want to ride the tea cups while I ride the haunted mansion I’d let them,especially if they have a phone,you know tell them what time and where to meet you at Disney but I still completely understand the rule😅

As a Disney Kid - the children of cast members who spent their summers and school vacations at the Park (Disneyland) - I’m afraid that this is our fault. My mom was a ‘55er (opening day employee) and worked there for 53 years. When I was a little kid we were taken to the Park two or three days a week in the summer and back then it wasn’t open gate, you had to give tickets for rides. Unless you knew the ride operators. And they’d let us in, without a ticket. And when you were under 14, it wasn’t a big deal because that age didn’t need admission but...some of the thousands of us took advantage. So...in 1973 the administration dropped the hammer on us all, made everyone have wrist bands, we had to be signed in to the Main Gate by our parents and no unaccompanied kids under 13. I’m sorry. But it was a cool place to be everyday all summer when I was 6.

One time, Disney security made me change my shirt because it said “Bullet Club” on it. Bullet Club is the name of a wrestling faction. I didn’t have an extra shirt so I had to buy a new one. What made me more upset about the situation is that there were other guys wearing shirts talking about the first amendment and gun policies on it and nobody said anything to them. Seemed pretty ridiculous to me.

Plus if gum gets in the mechanical parts of a ride it could cause a serious malfunction

UPDATE: Since May 2019 smoking is no longer allowed INSIDE the park. The only time you can smoke is at the entrances in designated areas. Vaping is included in this rule.

As far as I’m concerned it shouldn’t be allowed at the entrance........or parking lot. After all this is a place for children and seeing adults smoking is teaching bad habits of health. I picture people trying to walk through the entrance holding their breath to avoid asthma attacks, a few making it through only to have the stench of cigarettes on their cloths........and vapers lying dead at the entrance. Lol. Seriously though, not good exposure for children.

I dont care if people smoke as long they are in their designated area but vapers are the big problem because technically when you exhale its a type of smoke, people smoke as they walk around the park.

Lol back in the day my dad decided to film the matterhorn. It was the late 80's so it was one of those giant shoulder mounted vhs cameras.... No one stopped him or suggested that he no do so. Part way through the ride the sudden movement caused the hand strap the break and the camera fell from my dad's hands. Since its a fairly dark ride my dad thought the camera fell out of the car, fortunately he was wrong, it fell between his legs. So the footage from the camera was a few seconds of violent motion then the camera falling, my dad's shoes and him repeatedly screaming "I lost the f****** camera!" for the rest of the ride. He never filmed another ride after that.

Peter Banderas when my daughter worked at animal kingdom the first year it opened, my poor husband had to carry the cam corded all over the parks. We made him record every minute in clouding the rides. He was in the front car for spaceship earth? Every evening we would go back to the hotel and relive our day. The one thing I am happy for is that we recorded the electric light parade. I was so sad to find out they don’t do that anymore

I got in a fight with my mother in law last time because she ran ahead of all of us to get on the Safari ride at animal kingdom. She jumped in line we couldn't figure out where she was and when we called her she told us to join her. I wouldn't let my kids do it so my father in law went and got her. She was so mad she would have to wait in a longer line but I told her it was rude to jump 6 people in front of a crowd. I was shocked since she is all about table manners and church and doing things the right way. Made for a really awkward day but I was not about to teach my kids they were somehow entitled to be ahead of these other people.

The no spreading ashes seems reasonable. Remember the end of the Big Lebowski when they spread the ashes at the beach, and its windy, and it all lands on the Dudes face. If you were in a rollercoaster I could see everyone on the coaster being covered by grandpa.

Since human ashes are human cremains and not ashes and the clean-up takes much more than a simple vacuum. I used to work on a casino ship are experienced some unauthorized sea " burials." Without divulging to much, it was very unpleasant especially when the remains land on your body and you have to wear someones loved one until you get home to a long shower and heavy duty laundry...... Good rule!! 👍

If it happens again, let a CM know and they will put you right back on the ride. I will say the coolest thing to happen on HM was when the ride broke and they turned on all the lights and we had to walk out. It was actually pretty cool to see everything with the lights on.

There was a time I had a duck stare me down for the food I was eating by the lake at Epcot. I knew the rules and wasn’t about to feed him. Told the Duck sorry but I couldn’t feed him, he tilts his head and waddles off. I had a couple taking a photo or film of that stare down and laughing. It was funny, and the employees were even enjoying the showdown, and the fact I followed the rules.

I'm SO HAPPY that Disney banned selfie sticks. Not only are they horrible when you're trying to watch a show and someone shoves one above your head, blocking your view, but I also worked at an amusement park and I only needed one day to hate the darn things: I used to airbrush t-shirts and people would watch me draw. For the most part I was fine with people recording me drawing, as long as I was asked. One day I was working on a couple of t-shirts for a family and suddenly I got the feeling that someone was peeking over my shoulder. I turn my head and there's a selfie stick poking behind my shoulder, recording me without my knowledge. Another selfie stick was poking behind the booth to get a look at our equipment. If I had been wearing a skirt, these kids could have easily gotten a shot of more than I wanted them to see. I tried my best to hide my anger and disgust in the moment, but afterward I became far more strict about selfie sticks and recording. Luckily the park I worked for doesn't have the same employee expectations as Disney, because there were days where I definitely wasn't "magical" in my reactions.

I remember when I was working there, I had a guest smoking literally UNDER the NO SMOKING sign in front of Stitch's Great Escape (yep, this was more than ten years ago). One of the rare times I was sarcastic to a guest (as this is something you can get fired for), the following exchange occurred: Me: Sir, there's no smoking in Disney parks except at designated smoking areas. I'll gladly escort you to the one in Tomorrowland. Guest: When can I smoke HERE? Me: *still smiling, with the same cheery tone* Sir, if you were on fire I would allow you to smoke in front of this attraction, however I would do my best to put you out. Line cutting is one of my biggest pet peeves. A few years back me and my dad got in line for space mountain and there were two people from one of the massive Brazilian tour groups in front of us and the rest of their 50+ person group tried to cut us to get to the two in front of us. We were not letting them through.

I'm with you on blocking large groups trying to cut through. But I do have some flexibility. If like two or three people already in line and only one or two wants to join them I may let them through. If it's up to four or five people it depends on how many of them are adults and how many are little kids I may or may not let them through. But if there's only been one person holding a spot in a group of like four or more people try and cut in then I would block them and recommend them to go to the back. I will admit I have cut in line but I always ask the person if I could before I do. And I've had times where I'm moving up through the line and someone blocked me and I would either ask if I could stay there by the people I last past or I will move back to the last spot in the line again.

Top 3 that annoy me most as a WDW vet: 1: flash photography on the dark rides. (Stop Already) 2: line cutters. Wait until your entire party is there. This especially true when crowd levels are moderate to very high. 3: parade squatters. Man everyone had their spot for more than 30 minutes at least. Don’t go trying to force yourself in front. Real cigarettes are a safety hazard that the parks have long not liked, & probably raises their insurance rates. If they had a closed room for smokers that filtered the air instead of letting it drift to people walking past to whatever ride/food place/restroom they are going to, then other guests wouldn't be bothered. No one would be exposed to something that bothers their lungs & the smokers wouldn't have to go all the way to the parking lot. Win/win.

To be honest, a lot of these rules are found in other parks, such as Six Flags parks (ex. no rolling, running, etc, and I'm sure the spreading of ashes at other parks is also not allowed). It is nice to know you can bring outside food into the park though, because that's probably one of the biggest expenses when you visit Disney (most theme parks don't allow outside food at all). But many of the items, like no selling, are common almost everywhere.

I like the idea of getting a set time to come to a ride, instead of having fast-pass as an option. I heard that they are trying that for some rides, to reduce the space taken up by lines & to allow guests to do other things instead of standing in line for an hour or more to keep their place. You just go by, tell them how many are in your group, get a time with a verification number, & then when you show up you are in a short line with others given that same time instead of having to wait a long time. It's no extra cost & just as fair because it's still 1st come, 1st served.

Tamara Smith that’s it exactly. We told the travel agent what rides and dinners we wanted and she set the times up. It didn’t cost more. It was just pre planning. The best part was since we had 2 people with scooters they were able to get us out of the way. They parked the scooters before the ride and had them waiting when we got off. All 9 of us were able to do everything together as a family

When it comes to "adults" (14+) wearing costumes: You are also not allowed to cosplay ANY disney character wearing outfits that the character wears in a movie/show or resemble face character outfits of any fashion. Oh how I wish they would have escorted this man that was dropping the F bomb and using GD to a sweet college program cast member when I was there visiting my daughter who was a character attendant over the holidays. It was unbelievable!! He had to be in his 60s and talking like to a probably 20 year old (maybe younger) in front of kids waiting for a parade... I was so sad for her and shocked by his attitude.
