That has to be one of the most beautiful, intricate, well running engines builds I've ever seen! The workmanship is the finest, the finish is gorgeous, it appears a perfect copy of the original engines, and one simply can't beat or emulate that "music" from the exhaust, mixed by the prop. I've built many engines, am building a nine, radial now, but nothing to compare to what you have presented. Thank you for the opportunity to see and hear it run. Semper Fi, John McClain

My German is rusty as I haven't spoken any after leaving what was then West Germany in 1982. But if the owner and operator of this glorious multi row radial engine should be able to see what I write and understand me, I would like to give him a hearty BRAVO for a job well done! After a stint in the US Army I became a Sheriff's Deputy for some years then changed over to an FAA Rated Airframe and Powerplant Technician where I had opportunities to work on the full sized Pratt and Whitney R-2800 engines on old warbirds as well as other radial and horizontally opposed piston engines. So seeing a miniature version of those grand old powerplants brought an incredibly large smile to my face and I thank you for your efforts and wonderful creation! Good Luck and Take Care.

1: I guess the noise and wind are enough of indicators for anyone standing near about this engine being running. 2: The paint on the propeller tips never served as warning in the first place. I am not entirely sure whether it was zinc or lead that was included in the chemical compound of that yellow colour, but it was some heavy metal, which made the paint fairly dense and heavy. It was mainly applied to finely balance the propellers. Again, with the full size engines on full throb, you'd have to have your mind all over the place not to notice the big engine next to you running. If you did, it would definately be all over the place, though. Along with the brain that used to contain it… :oD
@TheTormhel7 жыл бұрын
Painting tips as a way of balancing the prop is only done on very lightweight propellers, wooden propellers or carbon. Larger wooden propellers were balanced with additional layers of varnish on one blade. In more modern days balance is achieved by grinding and adding weights inside the blades and finally adding steel weights to the hub. That even apply to fixed pitch propellers. The painted tips is helpful as they draw a colorized arc showing the prop as opposed to the black blades which is nearly invisible. You have to keep your wits about you of course, a spinning prop of any size is dangerous and easy to forget or overlook.

This level of engineering is beyond the comprehension of many school educators and requires an intelligence that many schools do not even recognise. It is such a pity that many who have such high intelligence go through life finding their own paths and having to do it on their own. Over 70 years ago classical education only involved languages, memory work as history and so many students' morale was destroyed because education did not cater for individual intelligence of students but it was a sort of mass production effort using only books as a source of knowledge. Well done and heartiest congratulations for such magnificent, sublime work.

I suspect what you are really seeing is that the cylinder barrels are made of steel while the heads are aluminum.
@TheRunereaper5 жыл бұрын
@@bottomshot4546 Thanks for replying Bottom Shot. A few hours after asking that question I realised that being air-cooled the engine would use dry liners. That being the case it would be better suited to having a barrel of a similar material to the liner so that expansion remains uniform. That means that the black paint is primarily to protect against rust and heat dissipation is a secondary function. It just proves the old truth that I should have engaged my brain before opening my mouth.
