Brilliant video guys, thank you. After a 40 year (yep, that's right 40!) break from playing drums when I was a teenager, I've come out of retirement 😉. Currently taking lessons and these kind of rudimentary tips are gold dust! My goal is to play at my 60th birthday bash this July, without friends and family knowing beforehand! Wish me luck keeping schtum before then!

Your suggestion on the direction of thumb pressure was very helpful as my sticks would creep forward

I’m just learning and wondering what I need to change to stop the back end of the stick from hitting my right inner forearm near the wrist but the inner forearm as I play. What do I need to modify? It happens sometimes and im guessing I need to address it somehow with a technique.

I do a grip where I put my stick through index and middle fingers. You get way more endurance and powerful finger strength.

I think there is definitely a right and a wrong way to hold your stick. At least until you develop a solid technique. Once you are proficient then yes you can vary the way you grip the stick and very advanced drummers can hold the stick in a variety of different ways because they are so adept. But for the novice, you should always strive to learn the standard and accepted ways of holding (and operating) a stick, otherwise you will likely never improve much.

hey guys, I'm a good drummer, but the issue I always have when I play out is that I always end up clicking/hitting my sticks together during rolls around toms...say in a 3 set night, it will happen 5-10 times.....when I practice ,I work on it and I'm good, but playing out, when I can't focus on that , the sticks hit each other, it's sloppy, couple of times I hit the sticks together and knocked one out of my hand....can you guys do a video on things to do to avoid this stick clicking /hitting together....I use match grip....thanks !!

I can tell you from my experience I've dealt with this in the past. It was due to rushing during a live show (which is common, but don't speed up too much). Also due to not being relaxed and allowing the drum sticks to do their thing. Meaning I would force the roll instead of allowing the drumsticks to rebound and have a natural flow to them. Maybe 180 will chime in as they might have more useful info.
