Got a bunch of old laptop batteries so that i could salvage the cells out of them to do some projects! Don't forget to like, subscribe and share!! Thanks for watching.

That's a lot of cells. I've got about 140 cells to get thru for a first attempt at cell harvesting. I can charge 4 at a time but only discharge test 1 at a time. Also you've got a new subscriber :)

Good video. A while ago I got 3 laptop batteries. No where as lucky as you. Sooner or later I want to build a charger too. I din't have a decent charger and I am not inclined to get one at this time. I have some ideas on building one and I am experimenting as time permits. Hopefully I will not end up with any thermal runaway. I did put up a few videos on Li Ion recently. Nothing special yet though.

So were did you get the packs from?
@aditigulati15775 жыл бұрын
You can also harvest some thermesters from each pack.

I'm doing the same thing now and it speeds up the process by charging the batteries while they are still in the pack. Then tear them apart and top them off in a slot charger. Only then do I capacity test them. Pull them off as soon as they are done capacity testing and start another while the tested cell go back on a slot charger.

Hello from 2019! I am doing the same job at the moment - disassembling battery packs and cleaning 18650s preparing them to be tested. To have some fun during the process - watch youtube. So, you showed fow you clean cells on a sanyo ur18650zt - and was cleaning exactly the same cell =)), then you showed a second example - LGABC21865 - and it was next in my box =) Then you showed a Miboxer charger - and it is the same charger I use to recover "bad" cells and precharge cell before testing in Lii-500. It was fun to have so much similar things in a one video =)) Greetings from Germany/Ukraine and have a nice day! =))

Thanks for watching! It's a fun project, learned /still learning lots. Cheers from British Columbia! Oh and you will probably want to upgrade that miboxer for a charger that can capacity check in all 4 slots, that charge can only check in slot 4.
@YarLeo4 жыл бұрын
@@havinfun4014 For capacity check I have 2 Liitokala Lii-500. Miboxer is only for charging and reviving 0 volt batteries. And my Miboxer is a bit newer version in which they removed the capacity check in the 4th slot. By the way, to clean the cells I use small clippers with a flat blade on a small angle - they cut nickle stripes easily, clean (remove) welding points smooth and are also good to remove silicon/glue remnants from the sides. So it is kind of perfect tool for the job, I do not need anything else =))

I hope you match them by internal resistance also. And by holding the voltage capabilities ))

Apparently WD40 works well on getting rid of glue on the side of surfaces like those batteries.

I usually charge mine at 1amp on the same charger , let them stand for 7 days then do the discharge capacity test. that's done because a full charged battery will sag loose some charge just by standing then you get a more accurate result.
@havinfun40146 жыл бұрын
That's probably a good method actually... The battery would also be cold at that point. I have put a few cells back on the charger after a few weeks just to see the results and it always varies, had some result in higher capacity and some lower... usually 40-50mah... Thanks for watching!
@steve644646 жыл бұрын
Also monitor them while on charge as some get toasty , This particular charger has a thermal cut-out too so while on discharge it can pause while it cools so to resolve that i put a extra fan on it.

Opus is off sometimes about 400-500mah..... SKYRC MC 3000 is the real deal and accurate you won't believe it. is a little bit expensive but is worth every penny..... Since I test it with MC3000 I have no issues with pack's at all.... 👍

Hi Can a single column have a different cell capacity from 1500mA to 2500mA?

Whare do you find this ,and how we can get this batteries.
@carlnikolov5 жыл бұрын
Have you tried LiitoKala 500? it costs like $14USD... same capabilities as the OPUS... not sure how accurate the capacities are compared to the OPUS however... but for 1/3 the price..!!

Link to them at 14 bucks please!?!?!

Hi ! I have this Opus battery charger too :) But when i discharge lithium battery cells, they reach 3v per cell.... isnt the minimum recommanded voltage 3.2v ?
@havinfun40145 жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on the individual cells cutoff voltage. The cell will recover some voltage after the discharge cycle because it is no longer under load. It is best to not leave the batteries in a discharged state and charge them as soon as possible to avoid possible damage.

Did you buy from eBay? What's the max price you are willing to pay per pack shipped? I see many lots of 10 on eBay for $65-100usd shipped. Is that good?
@havinfun40146 жыл бұрын
Alan Evans I have... lot of good deals to be had. I would say 1$/ potential cell is reasonable. $100 per 10 packs of 6 cells is not good. Id stay around $60-70 USD shipping included.
@alanevans49556 жыл бұрын
Havin'Fun thanks for responding and the tip. I don't think I'm going to do a full power wall, maybe just a 7S pack to supply my bench. I figure 10 packs plus the cells I have should yield enough for a 4-8p 7s pack.

i have around 100 cells harvested cells from laptop battery, now i have cross checked few are fine which means more that 3.0volts now i have to re-charge the cells, after re-charge still need to check cell condition in amps, how to know is that cell is good or dead, i would like to make a battery pack with 36v20 amps for E-Bike, can any one kindly reply here with steps how/what to do/amps calculation that each cell min should have like 2or2.5amps should have then it would be good.

I like the Opus chargers but they're too expensive for my budget anymore to have more than the one I bought a number of years ago when I could get them for around $40. I am scouring KZbin for every other charger idea anyone else is using to process all the cells I have accumulated.
@havinfun40144 жыл бұрын
Yes, the opus are definately costly. I personally haven't found a cheaper solution, I checked to see if I could build some Arduino charger, it can be done but I don't think it would cost less... And just not as simple...
@szymontrojanowski75653 жыл бұрын
I personaly use liitokala ligi 500. I buy them directly from China for 15$ a piece, and I think it's the jest bang for a buck, for slots, it measures internal resistane, charges, and discharges cells. In my setup it's running of old ATX psu.
