We all have our different ways of working, we all have different ways of cooking ect... many seem to like to push their only ways on others and that is the biggest problem on line these days. I always enjoy watch "Your ways" of doing things and have learned a lot from you :) thanks again for another great learning video

I had no idea soaping was controversial, lol! We have had lye go bad, it just doesn't react as well over time especially if it is exposed to a humid environment. Just something to think about! Thanks Rachel!

A soap maker here. Vinegar will neutralize if you splash on yourself. You wear glasses, but anyone trying this at hom please where protective glasses. It will damage your eyes. Good luck at your farm stand. I started selling soap 24 years ago at a farmers market with my veggies. Now I sell to retail shops.

That is good advice. Congrats at your success. I'm just a beginner, about to make soap for the first time. I was wondering what type of things not to put with lye. Would Aloe and Glycerin be safe to include. I made shampoo with those ingredients and various natural oils and wondered how they might react with lye?

Do not use vinegar on a lye spill. It increases exothermic reaction. Use lots of water

I've made or helped make simple lye soap since the 1950's. It always amazes me how complicated some people can make it out to be. If you like your soap, that's all that matters. As I've gotten older, I simplified it even farther after watching a You Tube page called Uncle John. Super simple; hot lye water poured in room temperature lard, stick blend til it does its thing and spoon it into molds. And it floats! Win!

I really like your video, you explain everything and make it easier to understand. For instance I have watched dozens of videos in the past few weeks and this is the first time I have really understood what trace was. I don't think other people intead to make the process look so difficult but I feel they assume that beginners should understand things without a complete explanation. Thanks

Loved this, Rachel! I used to make soap for my family, gifts, and sold it at craft fairs. It was old school back then, no cool silicone molds or anything, even before we had internet or google. Haha! I felt like a mad scientist, but we loved it so much. I still have most of my stuff and you made me want to do it again. If I do, I’ll let you know. Oh yes, our favorite scent was rosemary and peppermint. So refreshing in the summer. Thank you for this video. It brought back many good memories of my little house in the big woods. ❤

I’m so glad you did this video. So many homesteaders talked about making soap, I bought supplies then they stopped, then the pods came out so, I felt like using those I was saving on plastics and my supplies are still sitting in the corner!! Thank you so much!! This looks beautiful, I wish we could have smelled it!! 😊

I love your vibes. You are so sweet. Love coffee and coffee soaps as well. I stopped making them since for some reason they don’t sell well for me. My coffee sugar scrub does though. There are many substitutes for olive oil. I am using the last bit I was able to get before the prices got out of control. I infused my OO with coffee and the smells comes through. Have some bars made two years ago. Thank you for sharing. Was that in the jars honey?

I have all the things to make goats milk soap but have been putting it off. Do you have a recommendation of a step by step video for that? I had to switch to unscented goats milk soap after my Castile soap started giving me rashes on my hands/wrists .
@i43taffy
@i43taffy 3 ай бұрын
If you are using goats milk (not powdered), it’s recommended to freeze it into cubes first. Milks have sugar that reacts with lye and can cause the soap to turn brown, or it can sometimes overheat and flow out of the mold. Freezing it first helps keep the heat level down. Soap Queen/Brambleberry has some great tutorials, but there are a ton of other creators with videos on you tube. Good luck!
