I have my grandmothers Ansonia Pompeii Mantle Clock do you have any suggestions on how to clean and make the black cast iron shine and reapply color to the scrolling?

I'm not very keen on the black part, but the brass dial is beautiful and the tone of the chime is lovely.

Gorgeous clock - must be heavy - why did they use cast iron ? What is an escapement ? Can you explain terms such as that when describing your clocks

Nice Vennia but the dial is rubber and not brass. The dial was originally black but has oxidized over the century to the brown color. If you pull the bezel off you can see the back of the dial is still black.
