Thank you so much for explaining the background behind galvanic and electrolytic cells so that i understand what is happening. I was literally sitting in lecture confused and I didn't even know what was confusing me or where to start. After watching these videos, I'm starting to understand what's going on and that helps on the practice problems.

Hi! This video was really making sense until towards the end around 11:00! I am confused how you connected shifting right in equilibrium means potential goes up and delta G going down and vice versa for shifting left. My understanding just thinking about it is because equilibrium shifts right, this means to make more products you end up transferring more electrons, and this means the n value is increased in the equation which overall means it is not subtracting as much = less negative? meaning potential goes up? Is this what you mean by less negative = more positive?

Does greater cell potential imply more positive or greater magnitude of charge?

Greater cell potential implies greater spontaneity for a reaction--the current 'wants' to flow in that direction more.

@@ChadsPrep Ok thanks. Also could Ce4+ + Zn "arrow" Ce3+ + Zn2+ + e- be a viable overall reaction when given the standard electrode potentials.

A balanced redox reaction shouldn't have any electrons appearing. Since the reduction only involves a single electron, whereas the oxidation involves 2 electrons, the proper balanced reaction would be 2Ce4+ + Zn --> 2Ce3+ + Zn2+ Hope this helps!
