The Gatlin Gun they fired was slightly different from the ones used in the Spanish-American War. The one they shot all the watermelons with was a 30-06, while the originals were .45-70.

Actually you are incorrect Indifferent Centrist, The Gatling guns are chambered in 30-40 krag the same caliber as the rifles the Americans used in the battle you can tell it is not a 30-06 because it is rimmed. The United states Calvary had not used 45-70 since the adoption of the Kraig Jorgensen in 1892.

@@parkerholt9408 I didn't know that. Thanks. I know the Army didn't want stripper clips for the Krag-Jorgensen because it would encourage soldiers to waste ammo, being able to reload so quickly. There were definitely some growing pains when we went from black powder to smokeless. I actually have an 1873 Trapdoor Springield, and it works. It's hard to find ammo for it, since it can only take black powder (or very reduced charges of smokeless). In fact, I shot a deer with it a couple years ago. Not the highest velocity in the world but utterly devastating.

4:40 LOL, they're not even firing that MG42, the guy feeding the ammo is just juggling the belt around to make it look like it, but does a pretty terrible job. Guess actual blank-firing MG42s were too much for the budget eh?

Blanks would look like empty shells in the feed belt. I imagine the did it for aesthetics, so you could see the bullets in the feed belt.

@@tkgus2408 8mm Mauser crimped blanks actually don't look very much like blanks at all, especially to the average person....the crimped piece is long enough that it looks almost like a bullet. It would've been a much better option to use actual blanks and, y'know, fire the thing? More than likely budget constraints getting a blank-firing-adapted MG42, I doubt it was for aesthetics and I doubt they even thought that far.
@tkgus2408

@@cameron8679 Maybe, but I would've easily spotted a crimped blank over an hot round; and I would have thought it looked stupid. There's also likely no way they got an actual MG, that's likely a replica. Replicas are made in 7.62mm, which makes blanks not expensive. You can clearly see that the rounds in the feedbelt are 7.62. You can also clearly see the bullet, and most can't tell a blank from a spent cartridge so...
