Even I have to constantly go to a channel I subscribe to to check on if I'm up to date with viewing the videos, I'll do that if the channel puts out good content like this one. I suggest that everyone get into the habit of doing that. If KZbin chooses to not show me a video, I'll still be able to see it because I went to the channel and saw it myself.

I live in Ct, near the coast...Residents in the northern coastal states know that we now have a huge great white population that hunt the sea lions and seals that migrate between the dozens of N. Atlantic islands. Along all of the New England coastal beaches, news helicopters often show dozens of these sharks swimming within 100 yards of our local beaches... and they are there from spring to fall. Anyone foolish enough to swim 400 yards from shore is either ignorant of reality or is too ego driven to realize the danger they are in. Kayaks are constantly being bumped... and this is at a mere 50 feet from the beaches.

In 2012 that wasn't the case-GWS had been increasing for a few years on the Cape, but were no where near the current population levels+ I believe that was the attack (profiled here, on visitors) that signaled things had changed. I know local people who still swim off Cape Cod, sometimes from boats. They've been doing so for decades and even though they know its no longer wise they are loathe to give it up-same with surfers. There are so many GWS so close to shore it's a miracle that there haven't been more fatalities.

I think a lot of people who engage in ocea activities are actually very aware of reality. I won't get into the statistical likelihood of being attacked or bitten by a large shark, but many people know the risk they take and choose to pursue their passion. Life's worth living, you could die of some freak health event at any moment and I really think your own ego is a bit inflated. Have more respect for people, only stupid people assume others are stupid

@@rockyevans1584I live in northern california and my step dad would go scuba diving to go abalone hunting with his friends while I'd snorkle on the surface out of point arena and we had a nearly identical incident where a dude was abalone hunting with his buddy and got decapitated by a great white. This happened about 50 miles north of point arena where we'd launch and I definitely thought about it every time I went into the water after but as you said it's not like anyone is coming out here and getting into the water without knowing what's swimming with them.

Love the subject matter and your delivery style…very cool and casual but accurate and precise; a great combination! Six or so years ago, we swam out to a sandbar off the coast of Charleston, S.C. (N of Patriot Point). When we got there, I saw a guy with a little toddler sitting on his shoulders in neck deep water. I immediately thought how irresponsible we all were for going out there. Mad at the the guy who exposed his child, we decided to go back before we had to witness a horrific event. I’ll never do it again. The feeling of vulnerability, for me, was seeing that little girl with no chance to survive, should her dad be attacked.

Watched an idiot with his baby daughter on his shoulders going up an escalator with empty space on either side. A good 15 - 20 foot drop. His daughter would have been dead. Watched another idiot place his 5 year old on a LEDGE so he could take a picture. Down he went. 18 feet onto a soft sofa that happened to be there. The mother placed her INFANT on the ground and ran after her husband after his stupidity caused the fall and LEFT the baby there?!?!? This was at a former place of work. A lot of us are just monkeys. Thank you for your videos. My kids surf, snorkle and free dive off San Diego Coast. I warn them of the dangers and what to do if faced with a shark (thanks to info you and others share). But they love their activities. Me: I'm now afraid to go in the water. I grew up in West Africa and swam in the ocean all the time. Once I was warned by some Africans that there was a shark in the water. I was a young kid, in a hurry to get in and didn't listen or hear what they were saying. Lots of hammerheads in the area that they would catch when they went out fishing. Awhile back I was going to get a kayak and kayak more but now I see how sharks like to go after kayaks, so I'm glad I didn't (I got too busy).

Hal, I lived around the N. CA coast for 40+ years, and the area off the Sonoma & Mendocino coast is very popular for abalone diving. It's also very popular for the GW hunting areas because of the abundance of seals and sea otters that are plentiful in that area. Granted, many people frequent that area during abalone season, but they are not at the top of the food chain. They're just another meal! There's also a real nasty undertow in the Goat Rock area, and if you get into that water, the Pacific Ocean will grab you and spit you back out in 2-3 days. I've lost a couple of friends that got alcohol stupid and paid the price! Same deal with diving around the Farallon Islands, especially during the seal birthing season. A GW target rich environment!

Hal, you do a great job with these videos! Also, I have to make a comment about the name of a place in Hawaii....Leftover Island. What a fitting name. 🤣🦈

This is such an awesome episode with the rubber suit man. I would pay to have hal tell about his exploits. God he is so good at making me laugh he chuckles at the same parts I am holding in laughs😊

Another great video ! This is so much better than those shark videos that are long drawn out stories like they are reading us a fairy tale!! So boring and I just don't have the patience for them. You have it right ! You tell the nitty giddy and move on to the next one. And you throw in some funny tales about yourself and fishing. And the part about, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING !! Is great . Keep it up and as word gets out , you will have millions of followers. I always direct others to your videos. I'M hooked !!

It hilarious that the last newspaper account you show referred to a Captain Webb who swam the channel naked, but used the term “puris naturalibis” instead. 🤣
