This KZbin channel is about me Sven Yrvind. I am85 year and five months old dyslectic solo sailor. I am adapting a 30 year old 17 feet, 5.3 meter long high latitude canoe cruiser of my own design for a sail to Dunedin in NZ. There I have been promised an ice cream.
The route will take me south of Cape of Good Hope, Africa and Cape Leeuwin, Australia.
The voyage is not only intended to be one of pleasure. With two of the three great capes done I believe that if I continue east and round Cape Horn. I can argue that a small boat is seaworthy and that will be good for the man of small means.
Often the 22th every month I do a resume of the project.

Would a solid fiberglass mast be to heavy?

The idea of the fiberglass mast is to have an antenna inside. If solid that would not be possible

@@SvenYrvindExlex the antena does not have to be in the centre, when fixed well on the outside, its fine enough, but with almost half the weight of alluminium i will look at it as well.

Will you fill the bottles with salt water when they are empty to get the same weight, or is this only a marginal difference in weight?

I am planning now to have outside ballast so I do not think that will be needed. Test will decide

The water contianer are made of polyethylene. They are not rigid. I just squeze them in I have used them for more than 60 years. Not the same one.

Is that a good idea water and electric together? Simple small accident could be disastrous.

When well covered it will not be and when water runs over the bulkheads, you have already major problems.

@@SvenYrvindExlex never chalange nature... A pointy beam at speed comming on a wave of 600 cm is differend then a steel ball from 150 cm hight. Give me a spear and it will go trough your hull. 😉
