I have two questions about this episode. I would be happy to hear your thoughts and interpretations, especially your thoughts about these topics' relationship with OUR lives (so, not just abstract spirituality!). 1. Why does Rumi describe the divine intervention as binding his hands in chains? - How does this "restriction" paradoxically offer freedom? What might this suggest about the relationship between human will and divine will? 2. Rumi speaks of not acting like an "owl" or becoming a "thorn." What do these symbols represent in the context of spiritual awakening? - How do they relate to the tension between staying connected to the divine and reverting to worldly concerns?

Iqbal talks of something similar to the first point which roughly translates like " this servitude is freeing and that servitude is begging; Either be a man of God or a man of world". Acording to Wasif Ali Wasif, the peace of heart comes when a person accepts their state as part of Divine plan and suffering is no longer suffering. Sometimes pain and suffering is the greatest gift in life, because it holds in itself the path to salvation. It is natural for a person to call upon his/her helper and this may appear to a person like a sort of binding but might actually be freedom. This is poets talk and there can never be a straight answer to it, but hidden in the word play is a call to realize that the Divine is always around you but like a jealous lover is not happy when you forget Him in the worlds illusions so He ploys these schemes to make you come back to Him and His love has many forms.

@@ahmedabdulrehman90 Nicely put! I especially like your "jealous lover" metaphor.

@@Rumi.Echoes you are too kind 🌷. It was very natural to think of the jealous lover metaphor as it makes it quite senses. After all all our attributes are derived from Divine attributes (of similarity) and there for to identify the Divine we must identify ourselves first🌷.
