Good points. One difficulty through with avoiding stock images for websites is that the images supplied by small clients are generally awful, because they are not photographers and usually unwilling to pay for photography. If a website has awful images no amount of Seo will make it look good.
@rankingacademy3 жыл бұрын
I understand but even though they are not photographer, business owners can still take decent pictures. They might not look as professional as the ones from stock photo libraries but will have a lot more SEO value.

@@rankingacademy Nowadays I run a design studio and most of our work involves web design, however I previously worked professionally as a photographer for over 20 years. Modern cameras are wonderful, however the standard of images shot by the average small business is totally inadequate 90% of the time for a business website. They shoot pictures vertically when you ask for horizontal or send over room interiors where the walls look wonky, then there are just silly things like shooting images where they are dressed badly in poor light or have hair in front of their face. I totally agree that stock images should be avoided if possible, but based on repeated experience I find that few small businesses have a clue how to produce suitable website photography, no matter how much guidance they are given in advance. Let's not forget that bad photography will harm their ranking as well when people leave the site after five seconds because it looks ugly and amateur. Realistically they should budget for somebody to do the job properly. On a side note, I love your channel and there is a lot of great information. It's just this one point I struggled with based on daily experience. CANCEL REPLY

@@murasakistudio could you show your clients a before and after example of a website or leaflet that uses customer supplied images vs professional images in order to convince your clients to spend the cash? I work as a full time professional photographer and it makes a MASSIVE difference (as you know) to credibility and professionalism when you use high quality imagery.
@murasakistudio3 жыл бұрын
@@MomentphotographyCoUk It's a tricky one because clients might kid themselves their own efforts are OK without considering what others think when they arrive on the site and they are generally too focussed on the initial budget, rather than the longterm results. It's frustrating for me, both as a former photographer and also now on the design side when I have to deal with images that are not fit for purpose. This is very much a small business phenomena though and particularly with new companies wanting their first first website. These were bread & butter work for me early on with web design, but I am now targeting larger clients that will be more likely to pay for professional photography. We all know it is the right way to go, rather than stock and this ultimately comes down to questions of budget.

@@murasakistudio as a small business myself I can understand their mentality. It feels like a big risk financially that might not bring them the return. Lots of people willing to take their money and they want to be sure the money they spend is well invested. When you are a bigger business, some cash lost here and there doesn't feel so painful and it isn't such a risk. If only you could give them some sort of feeling of security, they might be willing to make the jump.

Great video but could be even better if you explain on which page of a website each tip or idea can be mentioned.
