Increased hiding
Cats like to hide, but if your cat hides more often than usual, it could be a sign that they are in pain. Pets who suddenly start to hide could be stressed out or have an invisible illness wreaking havoc in their body.
Not Using Their Litter Box
If your cat has always used their litter box, and then suddenly starts doing its business in random areas of the house, they may be trying to tell you they don’t feel well. Health concerns that can cause litter box issues include urinary tract infection, kidney disease, and bladder stones.
Changes in maintenance habits
Cats are great at maintaining their appearance.
When your cat starts to neglect their grooming routine, it may be time for a checkup. Your pet could be suffering from a range of ailments that cause fatigue, which would explain their disheveled look or the undoing of their grooming habits.
A “disheveled” cat might be missing patches of fur, have debris stuck in their fur, have dirty ears, or have feces stuck to their rear end.
Discolored Gums
Your cat’s gums should be a deep pink color, and when you press them with your finger, they should return to pink color within a few seconds after lifting your finger.
Pale gums that lack color are usually a sign of blood loss or poor circulation. This is because gums get their bubble-gum pink color from blood flowing beneath the surface.
Bluish gums can indicate a life-threatening lack of oxygen.
Bright red gums could be a sign of toxicity or overheating, but it can indicate a dental issue if the redness is right above the teeth.
Stinky breath
Unusually stinky breath in your cat can be a sign of gum disease or tooth decay.
Drinking excessive amounts of water
If you notice that your cat seems to be drinking more water than usual, it could be a sign that something is wrong.
A cat who drinks a lot of water could be suffering from endocrine problems such as diabetes or hyperthyroid disease.
A Sudden Increase in Appetite
An increase in appetite can indicate your cat has underlying health problems and needs to be examined by a vet. Increased appetite can be due to diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or nutrient malabsorption issues such as intestinal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease.
Crying or Yowling
Crying or Yowling can indicate that your cat is experiencing some kind of pain. If you start to pet your cat and they whine or keep distance from you, you know there is something wrong.
Vomiting
Some people believe it's ok for a cat to vomit once a week, but it's not. While vomiting a few times a year or an occasional hairball is normal, anything more than this indicates your pet could be suffering from some kind of sickness.
Increased Aggression
Sudden changes in a cat’s behavior is a sign of sickness. A cat in pain may become aggressive, especially if you unwittingly touch a sore place.
Losing Hair and Crusty Skin
If you notice excessive loss of hair and crusty or scaly patches on your cat’s skin that may be red, a vet visit is necessary.
Unexpected Weight Gain or Weight Loss
If your feline is suddenly losing or gaining weight for no obvious reason, it's important to visit a vet.
Lack of appetite
if your cat has suddenly stopped showing interest in their favorite treat, take a note. A loss of appetite could be a sign of a serious underlying infection, kidney failure, fever or even cancer.
Mobility Problems
Stiffness or limping can be a sign that something is wrong, especially in a young cat. In older cats, it could indicate arthritis.
Change in Sleeping Patterns
If your cat suddenly begins to sleep all day when it used to be active, they may be trying to tell you they don’t feel well. The opposite can also be true. If your pet is suddenly up all night, vocalizing, or is overactive during the daytime, it could indicate an underlying issue.
Coughing
Coughing can be caused by allergies, hairballs, and asthma to name a few of the more minor inflictions. It can, however, also be caused by more serious conditions like heart disease, lung disease, and other contagious diseases.
Runny eyes and nose
Sneezing, discharge from the nose or eyes, fever, coughing and, sniffles can all be signs of a feline upper respiratory tract disease. This is, essentially, the equivalent of the common human cold.
Bloody urine, stool or vomit
Blood is never a good thing. In your cat’s urine, it can mean a urinary tract disorder. If you notice blood in your cat’s stool, it can be indicative of a number of illnesses.

If you’re not already giving them Cosequin you might want to start. It makes them feel better if they’ve got arthritis. Most older cats do have arthritis. You can buy it in Walmart or pet stores. I noticed a big difference in my cats. And you’re obviously doing something right already ❤️

I lost my kitten 1 day ago. He was just a month old. He used to drink a lot of water and suddenly loss of appetite. Over 27 years ago my favorite cat had a cancerous tumor in him. He even lost 7 pounds. From 20 pounds to 13 pounds. He was very sweet and friendly cat from being a stray to being put down. He curled up on my lap for the last time and even slept with my sister overnight,too. He was a very special cat that bonded with me the most.

My little girl passed last week after giving us 18 years of unconditional love and companionship. She did exhibit some of these symptoms and that is why I took her to the vet. 14 years ago I had a 10 year old cat who suddenly started drinking and peeing a lot. He seemed otherwise fine and it was summer so I didn't think much of it. Luckily my mom has a PhD in biology and back then used to do research on diabetes. She recognized the symtoms immediately and rushed the cat to the vet. I am glad that today this information is widely availabe and you don't need a University degree to spot that something is wrong. Btw, the cat was treated well with Insulin until he died of old are 4 years later, at the age of 14. RIP Max.

My very first own cat, Pablo, once was not coming home as usual even though it was a hot summer day, on which he normally would come in for a solid half an hour every so often a day to cool off. I went to look and found him underneath a tree in the garden, his fur extremely greasy. Upon further inspection, from which he could not run as he as way too tired to, I saw that he was generally very unresponsive and didn't want to eat or do basically anything. My gut feeling was "he is probably poisoned" and I started a slow liquid treatment, giving him water, right into his mouth, so that he could 1. rehydrate and 2. could potentially lower the relative amount of poison in his blood. Nowadays I know that I was lucky that my gut feeling to give him lots of water didn't kill him as there are indeed poisons that are deadlier that way. But fortunately it worked and he got better within a few hours (he became more responsive and finally wanted to eat). And after 2 days he had fully recovered!

Vets can help you & your cat has a higher risk of survival if you bring him in immediately. @@faron_fae I tried to get to a vet, but unfortunately all vets in a radius of around 20 miles were closed that day (I think it was a saturday) and I wasn't very mobile back then, which is no excuse mind you. I messaged a vet to get more info and he basically said that, as long as he is just unresponsive and his health wasn't getting worse rapidly (due to how fast a cats metabolism works) I should expect him to recover. But believe me I know how badly this could have gone, which is why I wrote it in the original comment. It was a gamble and my cat was lucky that I won.

My calico has watery eyes, she’s been to the vet for it and he, after a thorough exam, said that her tear duct may not be connected properly. He said that the only way to fix it is expensive laser surgery (she doesn’t sneeze or cough and no discharge from her nose). He said as long as there are no other issues and it’s not affecting her quality of life, he recommended not doing anything about it. ALWAYS talk to your vet about any concerns you might have. Some of these things are usually accompanied by more than one symptom.

Putting on my vet assistant hat here: All of this is great information and it's definitely someone that your local vets want you to watch out for. I would also add sudden changes in eye color or skin color on this list too. If your cat's skin turns yellow, it's 100% an emergency situation and take to the vet ASAP. If your cat's eye color suddenly changes to a darker color than it normally is, it can be a symptom of uveitis. Taking the hat off, please consult your vet's office for further assistance.

Absolutely odd my cats eye has been discolouring over a few years. She is 6 yrs. It has gradually got worse ie whole of eye is a red bloody colour. Been on several vet visits and they don't have an explanation for it. She has started taking seizures. Had 3 in side 3 months. I have been referred to vet hospital which is going to cost around £3000 for a scan of her head. I need to know what is causing the seizures. Its very distressing to see it. The noise She makes is like a vicious cat fight. I am so depressed and worried about her.x if anyone has any info on what could be causing the seizures I would be glad to hear.x

For male cats it’s indeed very important if they don’t pee to call the vet. Because they can get stones which can cause blockage. But for female cats a blockage is unlikely,

This is a very excruciating and deadly situation for any animal including the human animal. Females can form bladder stones that can lodge in the urethra, though more common insole. That happened to my cat around a year or so ago. It was caused by urine crystals I'm pretty sure. The vet said she had 50/50 change of living. Luckily, she got the treatment she needed and is now a cute little, healthy kitty cat. That cat is my best friend and I absolutely love her.

The first time I had a cat who was sick... She let me know by suddenly climbing on me all the time. She had been affectionate but not that much. It took me a little while to realize what was going on. She got in my lap or jumped on my chest or shoulder or hip, anything to stay attached to me. She ended up having kidney trouble. I've never seen anybody say that's one of the signs.

taught my cat to tell me where and when it hurts. It is heartbreaking. The first time he had a wound from a fight, so i took out the claw that was stuck, which was a great relief for the cat. I could actually see he felt better as i removed it, like it was bugging him (maybe causing infection). After i of course rewarded him hugely. And now its like he knows that i take care of him, :) like a weird hairy baby. So he actually comes to me when he has any complaints, meows weirdly and licks where it hurts as to show me that something is wrong. I was kinda impressed, because i didnt think it took much for the cat to understand that i was trying to help. Cats are very smart, so dont underestimate your feline- Train it to tell you when something is hurting. Do it for yourself, but mostly for your cat. Maybe i could make a little youtube for you gyes if he hurts again :) or maybe someone else has already done it?- ;) And stay healthy and keep safe everyone.

Yes! I've taught my cat a bit and now he'll stand by his food bowl if he's hungry, next to his treats if he wants those and if he wants attention he rubs against me. Luckily he's never been sick but if it ever happens I'll be sure to teach him that I'm here to help ❤️

Well, my cats hide all the time except when they are sick, that's the only time when they really want my attention. Edit: i miss all the answer to my post. Well my cats are fine no one to bother them or anything, they just love to sleep in a dark secluded place mostly in the summer. But in winter they come sleep on my legs to get some heat. So yeah just some healthy cat well taken care of who loved hide and seek and suffocating their human in winter!

Clearly your cat's trying to tell you something. Your cat isn't comfortable whatever's causing that is your job to figure out. what kind of life is that hiding all the time? have you thought maybe you're doing something to causing the cats to want to hide or maybe somebody else in the house? Like extreme rough play, not getting fed enough or loud music and fighting\yelling? Possibly kids being rough with the cats or other animals? Investigate because like I said no cat should have to live like that. Cats are independent and like a lot of time to themselves however they shouldn't feel like they have to hide all the time, if they're comfortable in the home. FYI if find yourself getting offended then clearly there's something more going on because imho that's your conscious getting the best of you. And I'm only saying this because some people get really defensive when other people try to help them figure out what's going on. If you're not offended ignore what I said and carry on. let's say you had them from kittens, they're older now and have always hid... That doesn't mean it's normal just bc they've always done it, it just means you haven't cared enough to make them the happiest they can be. Pets aren't there for our own personal enjoyment, only when you want their attention. Don't get any pets if you're going to be selfish... Animals have feelings, be attentive to them... Just like you would a child or significant other.

My Gus Gus. Drank excessive water... His thyroid was out of control... Plus he ate like a piggy... He was on meds... Loved him so... He passed at 14 yrs and 11 months... Always take to vet when they eat excessive... And drink excessively... I miss Gus Gus💔

My Mikey is a main coon kitten and he is the third to be "sent" to me since I prayed & asked God for a cat to name after George Michael (the singer) oddly George had been into black & white when he was with the Executives the band b4 Wham. So the first kitten we (my hubs saved him he found in our backyard was black & white & had a ghost on his black back in white and a G (just like GM's signature) and on his side a black & white M. I got my George Michael cat. But...something went weird. We found a cat about 7 months later having kittens in our back yard. We kept her saved her kittens. My hubs went back out to checkb& make sure he got all the kittens. He found another kitten a black & white with a Y on his back and a M on his side. Yog Michael is his name. Anyways about a year later two cats appeared in our yard pregnant we kept them. One of the litters there was yet another two tone black & white kitten. No initials on him. But he has a black heart on his arm & a double heart on his belly in black. I had written George about a song "Heartbeat" and George answered me. We exchanged letters for awhile ..til he got so busy..I think. Anyways this one has the nickname Mikey...& he wants to be a main coon like my first George so bad. That he eats like a little 🐖 (pig). He's growing so fast. So,I don't think it's always bad when they eat good. They cannot be related too much time between being found. But, they act so much alike that it's freaky. I"ve learned that now as well. Lost my cat unexpectedly about two days ago. She ate excessively and drank water like its no one's business. I didn't realize she probably had something really wrong with her. I'll be sure and double the signs on my other cat Bandit and will take her to a vet if she starts doing so like Sasha did. I already miss Sasha and feel like a bad cat owner in that I didn't see the signs early on like I should have.

My family just lost our oldest cat, at 18 years. She is missed. I still dream of her coming by the bed and looking at me. She used to do that while alive. Sigh Anyway she suffered from very rapid weight loss in the last four months. Tigerlilly went from cannonball fat to skin and bones. But she never complained. It wasn't her nature.

I wish I had watched this video earlier, this video kept popping in my recommendation at least once a day this week. My cat Lala recently passed away afew hours ago. I bought her to the vet yesterday and had hopes she would make it by the next scheduled visit to the vet, but sadly she passed away much quicker than I had expected. My cat started to show at least 70% of the things mentioned in this video starting from 2 weeks ago. I had taken her to visit the vet 2 weeks ago but only since a few days ago she started to seem more ill. I should've brought her to the vet the moment I noticed she doesn't want to eat her favourite food which was 3 days ago... I regret it so much, I miss her so bad. Lala I love you so much and I'm so sorry for being to late to help you get treated..

My cat Nova had a hidden bite from a fight he got in with another cat that got infected and he displayed several symptoms mentioned. Hiding, not wanting to be touched and becoming aggressive when he was, lost of fur around the wound, not eating or drinking. One thing not listed was his big bright yellow eyes became dull. After the wound was found cleaned disinfected and healed he was back to his normal self

A cat that eats to much and is gaining weight is also a sign of depression. When I went on a rotation in europe my cat got a bit heavier when I was gone (she loves me a lot). My wife feeds them just as much if not less than I do. Now I've been home for a few months and she is happy and slender again. I saw one of my dad's cat also got very fat when his other cat got killed by a dog.

Rotten breath, shrieking all night, weight loss, and draining his water dish? Did they interview my 17 year old brat for this video? Don’t worry, he goes to the vet every six months for his checkup and bloodwork, and she’s well aware. He has early kidney disease and he’s going senile, and he does have some dental issues, but she says they don’t seem to be causing him pain and she doesn’t feel it’s currently worth the risk to his kidneys for a dental. So, it’s basically wait and see with him. He’s on prescription food to help maintain his kidneys and has dental treats and toys to help keep his mouth from getting worse, and we keep an on on him as much as possible.

Typical for elderly cats. Our cat (23) eats special kidney food and semintra for 3 years now. 2 years ago the hyperthyroidism started and 3 month ago a minor pankreatitis. We do what we can to make sure she still enjoys living but we know she can't live for ever

All cats are different and express their pain differently, but as animals, they often try to hide it. My cat is fortunately very expressive, vocally and physically - however, he's SO expressive sometimes its hard to understand if he just wants attention or is bothered by something. As a pet owner, I urge others to at least be observant! Feel for bumps, pay attention to abnormalities and maybe it could save their lives.

I would of paid anything to keep her alive but the vet said even if I had paid for all the treatments she would of passed away days later. I stayed with Noel the entire time until she took her last breath the hardest thing I ever had to do. I miss her dearly she would always greet me when I would come home.
