Okay, at 52.... I'm definitely a boomer. Yet it's sad to be debased by the young guys since I do remember very well (Alzheimer's hasn't already set in) being a young guy in the 80s and being very liberal and progressive in my views (still am). And I have this question to ask : what if this disdain aimed at boomers is really some weird way the Establishment is saying to young people "hey, just ignore those guys. Is everyone so thin skinned now that they believe their parent commenting on their weight is bullying them? Unless your parents have been tormenting you your whole life then it’s not that deep. They mean we’ll and probably just want you to be healthier. As a guy who has been thin, very fit and over weight now, my mother says that to me every now and then and I just say I’m working on it and that’s usually where it ends. I ask myself the same question so I know she means well. 99% of fat people aren’t happy with their weight, if they say they are they’re lying. It’s just a defence mechanism. You guys want to break up with your parents because they say you should work out more every other month when you see them? Wow.

Ehh, if a kid is overweight it's the parents' fault. The kid isn't cooking his own meals nor is he buying the groceries, so for the adults to shame a child for gaining weight is whack af, and from experience, really uncomfortable to witness. A 12 year kid is experiencing hormonal changes and about to go into middle school which is a terrifying time already; they certainly don't benefit from having their parent's make comments about their weight. If the kid is at risk for type 2 diabetes and/or developing unhealthy habits, then the parents need to cook healthier meals and increase their physical activity that centers around having fun and bonding, not "I'm making you burn calories because you're fat". Mental health is also a form of health and shaming children for being overweight compromises that.
