I bet that lower cylinder lives in a different environment than the uppermost. Oil must want to flood into that lower cyl. Beautiful motorbike.

Radial aircraft engines are normally dry sump oil system because of that, however this looks like a total loss system with a manual plunger pump on the right hand side taking oil from the front half of the tank so no scavenger pump system needed.

@@Paul-FrancisB Good points. I used to have a BMW K75 (cyl layed horizontal) oil would pool in the cyl and as eng cooled oil would be sucked into cyl resulting in huge smoke from cyl till oil was burned off.

@@douglas9607 Yep, not uncommon. That engine puffed a fair bit of smoke out when they fired it up 😁

@@Paul-FrancisB K75 was a great bike. I learned that when I stopped the engine if I put it directly on the side stand (leaning over toward the head) it would suck oil as the chamber cooled. If I left the bike sitting upright while I took my helmet off, taking my helmet off with the bike sitting upright was enough time to drain excess oil from around the piston as it cooled. It would never puff smoke when I gave it a second to drain. Good times. I ride a tube frame Buell these days (71 years ole). How about you? You ride?

@@douglas9607 great to hear you are still riding, its great for the head I find, I'm a youngster just 55 , my main bike is ZZR 1400 for comfort, a '56 Franny B Plover for the smell of 2stroke and a Kawasaki GT550 that I did a mild café racer on for getting between traffic.

This isn't a vintage motorcycle, it's a fake build in Lancashire in the 1990s. Verdel did build aircraft engines but never built motorcycles.

@@tommitchell8425 it's a pretty bike but just not what Sammy makes out it is, he bought that and a Packer replica from a chap in Clitheroe. Hence why the engine has been fitted with a Lucas type coil ignition rather than a magneto for example.
