You’re probably already aware that we released our cover of “1916” on April 14 (side note: thank you all for the amazing feedback. We’re so happy you like it!), so we thought it would be fitting for our next episode to be about the incredible band behind the song. Now, we want to know: Are you a Motörhead fan? What songs/albums of theirs do you rate highly? P.S. Don't forget, you can support Sabaton History on Patreon: www.patreon.com/sabatonhistory

Honestly when I saw the track 1916 dropped I deadarse thought there's no way. But when I saw the Double decker pull up at Hammersmith I jump clean outta my seat, my head still fucking hurts. Personally I was hoping for a Death Or Glory cover, has enough to translate to you're style.

The story of what it was like a few decades back now is pretty wild (if you think Hollywood accounting is bad, Record Lable accounting from that era will make your head explode), I'm aware that it's quite clearly Better now, but knowing how that actually works out would be quite interesting.

all i going to say is that metal machine music is the album that set artists back given the fact that labels made it to where now they can reject a album and still keep the rights to the artist music all because lou reed did not want to make a album the label wanted him to make

Motorhead was one of the bands that got me interested in Metal back in my last year of high school in the first place (2014), only because my mom's friend was getting rid of old CDs and I got whatever seemed like I would like. When I listened to that one Motorhead album (Bastards), my journey in leaving Rap behind for Metal (And indirectly other genres like Country) began. Motorhead truly is a great band, makes me regret I didn't come across them earlier.

You ok? We'll soon fix that. We are Mötorhead, and we play rock and Roll! Lemmy was a f*ing legend. Very intelligent, always a gentleman. And though a hedonist he was unselfish. Close to his dead, he still helped Richard Kruspe.

For a man who lived life to its absolute fullest living until he was 70 was quite the run. Others who lived like Lemmy either died much younger or cut back on everything. He was the heart and soul of metal, and I doubt there will ever be another like him.

I remember the first time I heard this song and I thought to myself that this would fit on a Sabaton album. When Sabaton where releasing a song called 1916 I didn't know it was a cover of Motörheads song. So I listen to Sabatons new song 1916 and I got the biggest smile. This is awesome. For me, the thing that really changed me for being "yeah, fine" to "fuck yeah" on Motorhead was seeing them live; they're best enjoyed in company, and at the kind of volume you really should be wearing earpro for. If you can't *feel* the bass, you're not really getting the full experience.

I, unfortunately, never got to see Motörhead live. I remember on September 5, 2015 my dad and I had tickets to see them here in Houston. They had to cancel due to Lemmy being too ill. Mötley Crüe happened to be in town that same night with Alice Cooper and he managed to get tickets to that show. It was an awesome show but little did we know that we'd never get another chance to see the mighty Motörhead. Also, I'd definitely be on board for a movie by y'all about Castle Itter and for an episode about royalties.

I remember in my 20th century world wars class, I recommended the song 1916 to my teacher, a fellow motorhead and metal fan in general. To my knowledge, he still plays the song to his class during the WW1 unit, as it coincidentally has a lot of the vocabulary terms for the conflict. He actually assigned us multiple The Great War episodes, and on the finally he asked an open-ended question on whether you would talk to Rasputin, Indy Neidel, or Lemmy about WW1 history, I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw this video.

I was lucky enough to see Motörhead live in 2004 or '05 (some time around then, anyhow). They were supported by Sepultura, who, BTW, were absolutely mind-blowing. I think it's a tribute to Lemmy's character that he was happy to follow Sepultura on stage, where other bands might have chosen a support act that was less well known or less outright brutal. Lemmy seemed kinda disappointed when only about five guys in the audience knew the Ramones by their first names (which was how Lemmy introduced the song Ramones that night). My ears were ringing for days afterwards.

I will forever be grateful to Lemmy for being willing to be one of the biggest names to collect Nazi paraphernalia. There's only so much the little guys can do to preserve all this history, especially in these last few decades when a lot of it has either been purposefully destroyed or lost. To have a big time player do it before all that was a great help and to show that it's not just a certain section of the population that's interested in collecting historical stuff that some think should be destroyed or forgotten.

Loved the song. Both great bands. Was immediately sold to Motörhead's speed. First song I ever heard from Sabaton was Primo Victoria. Didn't show much interest when I first saw it on KZbin. Even passed it up the first few times. But I'm glad I finally listened to it. "Through the gates of hell As we make our way to heaven Through the nazi lines" And I was sold. Started listening around 7 in the evening. It was well passed midnight when I realised I had been listening to Sabaton for far longer than I should have, considering I had to work the next day. I know Sabaton has already done a song about U-boat warfare. But it would be cool to see something related to the movie Das Boot, still hailed to this day as one of the best, most realistic movies about U-boat warfare. Some of the most memorable scenes of that movie for me are the run to intercept a convoy, U-96 almost getting run over by a destroyer, and her desperate attempt to escape to Africa after the English spot her at the surface and an aircraft renders her unable to dive after which U-96 gets attacked by seemingly two or three destroyers.
