Cool Forgotten Weapons Merch! shop.bbtv.com/collections/forg...
Germany was the first country to produce a purpose-built antitank rifle, in response to the major Entente tank attack at Cambrai. The design was pretty simple, basically a scaled-up Mauser 98 with 4 locking lugs chambered for the massive 13.2mm TuF cartridge. It would perforate about 20mm of armor plate at 100m, which was nicely effective on WWI tanks. By the end of the war more than 15,000 had been made. Interestingly, a bunch of them ended up at Springfield Armory, where they were used in the development of the .50 BMG cartridge.

As if life in a British tank in WWI wasn't bad enough, along comes Big Fritz with one of these to let some light in. Both a widow maker and a window maker, all in one gun.

@White Anglo Saxon Protestant Early WW1 tanks had relatively huge crews in very small, claustrophobic quarters, leading charges and taking fire. You're a target and it sucks being you. Though the armor is nice when the tank breaks down in no man's land. XD

"The T-Gewehr could be fired twice per soldier. Once per shoulder." From what I've heard standing in a trench the gun is fine to shoot but prone you just might break your collarbone. C&Rsenal fired one without the hardened steal cores at a big steal target and each shot moved the weighted down frame and they also delved a bit into tactics with it.

+rjonzen34 how OP do you think it is going to be? I imagine getting hit with the bullet is going to be a one hit kill, although you probably won't get much ammo, makes you a lot slower, etc.
@rjonzen34
@rjonzen34 8 жыл бұрын
Connor McLernon Well to call an "anti-tank" rifle OP, well that answers itself to me, as it wasn't designed with personnel as it's main target. Believe the purpose will be to punch through armor and remove the threat inside, and still leaving the equipment usable, versus hitting it with a grenade or mine. Yes it is a single shot bolt gun, so the rate of fire and reloading will be drastically reduced/increased. My guess is, that it won't get used often, and when it does, it will be a one shot and drop it and go type of usage, but just my opinion.
@connormclernon26
@connormclernon26 8 жыл бұрын
+rjonzen34 just because it wasn't designed for anti-personnel work doesn't mean in the game it couldn't do that. After all, the M82 was designed as an anti-vehicle weapon but it's also been used as an ultra long distance anti personnel weapon

Imagine lugging that thing around in the cold December snow of the eastern front, after dragging it through the October mud and being frostbitten starved and worked to exhaustion until one day you are in a cold, snow ridden trench and you see a large soviet tank cresting the hill within your sight range. You bring your heavy burdenous weapon to bear and fire a shot that pinks off the tank's frontal armor. It continues to drive forward unaware of your efforts. You remind yourself that it's late December, but your only Christmas present comes from the Soviet Union and it won't stop until after it smashes you into the ground.

It wouldn't even be a challenge for the rifle. Just a matter of being able to hit the bloody thing if its moving.

Yeah you could definitely take down a chopper with this, even most aircraft. Basically anything that's "soft" or un-armored would get chewed up by this monster.

It's a shame no one realizes that it's an Anti-Tank rifle and can 4-5 shot a tank sometimes. It can be used against infantry, but like the K-Bullet it is not advised.

Some criticism. Given my background in artillery, the bipod was 180 degrees off of how it would have been used. They would have wanted the mud or dirt to take some of the force from the recoil. Not the spikes.

Actaully the bipod was turned in the oposite direction and pressed into the ground(soil) to keep some of the recoil. Soldiers that shot the riffle a few times they got haedache and pain in the shoulder,arm so they were unable to shoot it onother time more. sry for my bad english but ithink you understood me-

Forgotten Weapons yeah. something very interesting, u probably already know this, though, is that a lot of tactics our current US military uses today are mainly tactics that the germans had. the germans were also the first military to really start using camp patterns. and a similarity everyone knows about, or one that really stands out, is the old nazi helmets, you know, how our current helmet, also in use by many other militaries around the world, is of course based off of the old nazi helmets. and everyone's like, "oh, they were associated with nazis, so they're evil", or something like that. but, you gotta admit, it is a great helmet design. it really protects your whole head, and ears, and neck. unlike the british helmets, which i would not take if i could go into combat. but who would have knew, our .50 BMG cartridge, currently in use today, was based off of a german cartridge, that they were working on a heavy machine gun to chamber it in. i find that very cool and extremely interesting
@mikec8086
@mikec8086 8 жыл бұрын
+Sandro Bruni a negative with the german helmets was that they could break the Germans neck if grabbed from the front rim and rapidly pulled back. the Allied spy operations taught that to their operatives who were to do field work.

@DebatingWombat
@DebatingWombat 8 жыл бұрын
+mike C I'm quite sceptical of the practicality of this technique due to the following concerns: A) How often would you actually be in a position to grab the front rim and pull it back? B) Could you reliably expect to be able to do it with enough force to snap the neck (which is a lot harder than Hollywood makes it look, btw)? C) How likely is it that the neck would break before the chin strap?
