1919 OTIS manually controlled 2-speed traction freight elevator @ 37-18 Northern Blvd, New York City

R.I.P! I was told by one of the employees this elevator will get replaced soon (if it hasn't already been replaced). Apparently, another old freight elevator was already under replacement when i went there.
Big thanks to the kind people for showing me this elevator!

Very EPIC Elevator.

This is a baeutifull elevator, fully manual. I like how the users improvise around it's flaws. Not completely level? Bugger that, we make it level with that handy plate that we've got laying around. The building interiour is quite special too, have you've seen those mushroom columns? Very classic and efficient flat slab concrete floor structure without beams, very common in wharehouses and the like.

This was in the movie 12 rounds. In the movie the elevator free falls, u see all the equipment and shaft and everything it’s aweosme

Shame they demolished the building, the elevator was still in service 97 years later. Since it was manually operated, 2 speed might have been a micro-drive with a 2nd motor inline with the main driven motor's rear shaft. Main traction field cuts out, leveling motor cuts in as the cab reached the landing. Or an AC induction/split right motor with dual stator fields.

That is so amazing!! Reminds me the 1934 Siemens-Schuckert manually controlled elevator in Turku, which have unfortunately been demolished :-(

If you have an Android phone you should definitely download the elevator speed app Beno created or if you have an iPhone download Lift Tester from Kleeman Lifts. Those are two nice apps. I've tried them before on both types of phones on modern Otises sometime in the early 2010's and it works very nice.
