He removed only the essentials, respected the history of the piece, treated the removed parts without damaging anything and most importantly ... spared as much patina as possible!

My gran had exactly the same sweeper, though her brush was worn down a lot more! She kept using it until the late 1970s.

Hya I ve also just spent my afternoon rebuilding the very same sweeper for fun, You forgot the cord around the out side edge that stops the sweeper denting furniture and the skirting boards, I used old curtain tie back cord, thats what those notches on the metal corners was for. A circle of the cord at the right size so it has to be nipped over the whole cabinet, then small tacked on the area around those metal corners. Looks great f you use red. Great restoration though all the same . lovely job.

Thanks for a bit of information about this lovely old invention, i didn't find any remainings of the cord during restoration, it would be nice to know that earlier 😀 thank you very much 👊

Not all carpet sweepers had rope bumpers. But yes, this model did have one. The company's own video shows it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJzYmWeBj5lobqs You can add the rope part without tearing apart your previous work, it hooks around the outside. Through what looks like some vulcanized rubber type clamper. @@MatthewMoustache

That was fantastic can I assume the Ewbank was the fore runner of the Bex Bissel (which we had in the 60's/70's)?
@MatthewMoustache
@MatthewMoustache 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin 👍 I don't know but I have these information, Founded in Accrington, Lancashire during 1864, we began under the name Entwisle & Kenyon Limited manufacturing water meters; we later moved on to producing manual washing machines and mangles. In 1889, our first Ewbank sweeper was sold, designed by Richard Walter Kenyon. It soon became the most popular product of its type in Britain and carpet sweeping became known as ‘ewbanking’. After World War II, we became a major manufacturer of floor care products selling shampooers, mangles, ladders and many more to both the UK and internationally. Today, we deliver a diverse collection of home cleaning equipment that has been created to combine design, performance and reliability.

Nice video! I have a question: I have one of these, also from the early 20’s and nearly identical, and mine is in great condition with very little rust. There’s only one thing stopping me from using it, the rubber on the wheels are warped, chipped, and worst of all, too far gone to be saved and prevents function or even rolling. I don’t have much in the way of proper tools without having to schedule some things, but how would I go about replacing the rubber or using a substitute on the wheels? I don’t plan on making this thing look brand new, just make it work again and clean it up to make it look nice, like an elderly man in a suit, where it’s showing it’s age but in an elegant fashion.
