Hi Jay.. Another most excellent and informative video. The 'sculpt' on the door panels mirrors the front bumper and Sun visor. Didja notice, for whatever reason, the temp gauge is in German. In another life, I was a certified auto trimmer, s'pose I still am, and in cars of this stature, I'll wager the interior is silk velvet or a cashmere mix.. Diana and Chandler.

It's a particularly well appointed car, and as you noted, it's early days for hydraulic brakes. It's also one I had never heard of, so well done there. As you went on to add yourself, commentary on fabrics in a restored car is much more likely to be a comment on the choice of the restorer rather than what was there originally. This may also apply to some degree to the way the seats are padded, which may in turn affect driving position. Cheers.

Hi Jay!: What a FASCINATING car! The Moon was a pretty well known make for a few years in the 1920's. It it so interesting that there were some really GOOD automakers, and they were all over the country! I apologize if someone has already posted, but that Windsor has demouontable rims. You have to remember that early on, automobile tires weren't too good, owners experienced a LOT of flat tires. Demountable rims made it easier to change to a spare. The tire was mounted on the rim and inflated. When you needed to change to your spare, you loosened the peripheral nuts over those plates attached to the rim. Then you could pull off the flat, and mount your rim/tire and you were ready to go again! Made changing tires a little easier on the back, too, as the tire/rim is a LOT lighter than trying to lift one of those artillery wheels with rim and tire! WYR#1 HARD, they are some real orphan goodies! Might go with the Jordan on that one. #2 Windsor White Prince.

I’ll have to see if they’ll be possible to do a demonstration of the detachable wheels because that would be really interesting to see how that’s done.. Sweet choices =)

That top of the door device on the rear is arresting gear, to prevent damage by careless passengers, not necessary on the front because the chauffeur would be competent of course. Thank you for your cameo’s of these automotive jewels.

My thoughts exactly on survival rates, I still remember the Bugatti uncovering and how many "barn" finds continue although a lot of them probably are bunk from my memories 60 Edsel convertibles that were 60 Ford Sunliners highly doctored. But there have been numerous vehicles found by sheer happenstance the sad part being most pre WW2 vehicles went to the war scrap drives. This was most prevalent to the upper middle lines of vehicles due to the amount of metal they had and the owners were not as protective of them. Compare the number of surviving Duesenbergs, V-16 Cadillacs, V-12 Packards, pre war Lincolns, and other top line vehicles that survived compared to their lesser brethren. Sad thought but at the time it was so or die.😮😢

Diana and Chandler--but just because I am more familiar with them. The wheels look as if they have detachable rims--you just bolt the rims to them. You don't have to demount the tire. I would say that there are more obscure brands (Rollin, for example), but this is way out there. Thanks for giving so much information on the brand.

Known means just that, someone bothered to document what was out there registered or not and has knowledge of it and shared that knowedge... It's a nebulous number, known is. For instance, Jay Leno's Duesenberg X was thought lost, not counted as whereabouts not known, until it was found in a garage a few miles from his shop. Now it is counted as known... About the wheels, the spokes stay on the car, the rim is attached to the tire and bolts on and off the spoked wheel... '29 Jordan '26 Diana RIP Jimmy Buffett.

29 Windsor White prince 26 Chandler Jay that is one beautiful automobile it practically looks brand new. Whoever did the restoration on that knows what they are doing. Surprisingly I have never heard of this manufacturer before. That said. If you want to find another auto maker to base your vehicle off of or emulate, a Packard would be a great choice. Don’t forget the Great Depression in 1929. That ended a lot of car brands. Interesting note from a Jay Leno video. The Dusenberg was only produced as a chassis for one year 1928. Because of the Depression all of its production dates were shown based on the year the Body was installed on the chassis for sale.

The orphan car of all orphan cars. A real beauty. 14:45 Don't need a door arm-rest when the rear seat is so far back, it'd be pretty useless. Would mid-luxury car buyers have been happy with a 66HP engine in 1929, do you think? WYR: 1. Dianah 2. Chandler

Yeah I think it makes it relevant. But I don’t think the inflation calculator can calculate for everything because there’s more people on the planet now than there was back then said one dollar would be a different amount because there isn’t as many dollars but that’s what inflation is supposed to represent.. idk

Jay, half the time you're getting all excited about how nice the interiors are on cars and I don't think you realize that the majority of them aren't original. This car, as an example, has been completely re-upholstered with what looks like late 1970's velour to mimic what was probably originally called mohair.
@calico-en8oc Жыл бұрын
How can you even make a comment like that from seeing a video? This was done in $90/yd wool mohair velvet- exactly what came out of it!

Front wheel drive cars suck no matter who makes them. But there all the real steel deal,except for a few. And all are beautifully styled works of moving usable art. If you don't register any vehicle of any type in Mo. You may go to jail for tax evasion. Tax collectors are everywhere and looking every day documenting what, when, and where, plus the time of discovery on subject. That Windsor Prince should be in that gorgeous blue even on the fenders with white pinstriping in the right style & placement. The grill should be chromed. Light bar chromed. The 1926 Chandler Roadster is awesome.
@What.its.like. Жыл бұрын
I should’ve worded it differently I live in a state where you don’t pay taxes on assets.. and if your car has antique plates it’s under my understanding anyway is that those cars don’t need registered.. but with antique plates I heard you can’t drive it at night classic plates you can.. I have regular plates on the truck so I can drive it when ever I wish

I'm going with the Windsor in both WYR scenarios. It's a shame these cars were only in production for two years...I wonder how the model would have evolved? And there are only ten left. I really liked that front bumper, the emblem and how it was laid out. But did it have windshield wipers? You didn't mention it, and I didn't see them.
@What.its.like. Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if I had windshield wipers now that you mention it but they would’ve been mounted at the top Great choices I never realized how rare these were until doing an episode on one but with that said this is the type of car that somebody would have drive it for 50 years and not register it so I wonder how many are actually out there..

The Diana radiator was an unabashed copy of Rolls, yet they did not sue. There was a lot of cribbing going on in the 20's - Minerva and Hisso were copied as well = possibly the thought being 'hey they're over in Europe, no one will notice'. For this model, Moon initially took the Prince or Wale's feathers as an emblem, but the Palace objected. The Ruxton debacle is an interesting story - much of it laid at the feet of Archie Andrews who was more of a liquidator than a car builder - but actually DID want to build the Ruxton. Swirling bankruptcies, last minute repreieves, and a plant lockout - great story. The 8 sedan was actually priced just under 2k - nicely appointed (priced firmly at the very top of upper middle market range) inside but somewhat dowdy exterior styling - would you have paid this money for an assembled car with a slick ad campaign and no real luxury pedigree, or would you have bought the safer though even more ungainly big Buick - or the more powerful and slightly cheaper Studebaker President.... WYR: 1) Jordan - just b/c I think it's ever more rare - lower production anyway 2) Windsor
