Hi Jay! There is a reason that it was called the classic car era. These cars are CLASSIC in every way. Quality, Smoothness, Comfort, and for the time Power, too. I wasn’t sure if velour was around back then it might have been velvet
@andrewhowarth45789 ай бұрын
@@What.its.like.I believe velour was produced as a lower cost alternative to velvet (which has longer pile and is slower to make because of the complexity and jamming of the required looms) and was used in both clothing and upholstery. It was made out of cotton before the modern polyester versions came out in the last half of the twentieth century. I know I've seen it in some vintage cars. There were lots of other fancy but cheap fabrics, like sateen, satinet, and velveteen, but they weren't rugged enough to use in a car. I'm kind of a textile industry nerd because my family owned textile mills up until WW2, so I always have an interest in which fabrics were used in which applications. Now just don't get me started on millponds, dams, and turbines! Andy

Back in the 1960s my grandmother had an easy chair that was upholstered in similar red velvet, but it was not on the floors and walls and ceiling like this. This is a limousine, the passenger had real money. Imagine you're the chauffeur and have to constantly maintain this entire vehicle to new perfection regardless of the weather, or what unemployed protesters threw at it.

Very pretty car - 1929-33 (depending on make) was the epitome of the full square rigged style that many still feel is the design statement of Classic. Full crown sweeping clamshell fenders, sidemounts and a detachable trunk with fitted luggage! Hood louvers - or even better, doors, but you had to get a 16 in 30 for that. Huge headlamps on a tie bar, and, except for a slightly tilted windshield (more to reduce glare than anything else) not a hint of aerodynamics yet. Skirted fenders came with the 32 Graham, all else followed. Not sure about those seats; pattern is correct and well fitted, but the color feels a little too bordello to be original. Red leather on open cars, yes, but I think this would have been considered garish here. Those rugs on the other hand were not original but were commonplace - assuming as a level of one upsmanship, but I don't have definitive commentary on whether this was popular when new or came about after several years of use (to conceal wear). WYR 1) Pierce-Arrow A - that was the flagship and had 35+ more hp than the Cadillac. It was a more expensive car and in 1930 still carried more prestige - or at least spoke to old money. 2) The Cord if I had a good mechanic and acess to fwd parts: beautiful but flawed.
