I love Packard. I want one one day I would be fine with anybody stuff from 1934 through 1941 but my favorite year is 1939 not the same thing bad about any other year I definitely like 38,37 as well… there’s just something about the 39s interior space grows you don’t have trouble getting in and out of those cars. The goal is to eventually get a 30s car I really want an airflow I like those the most I think they are just so bizarre but they’re not that expensive either people don’t know about them or just because something rare doesn’t mean it’s worth a lot of money and that’s a perfect case for that car But the goal is it’s to get a 30s and take it and share it with as many people as possible.. we need to get more young people into the Classic Car hobby

I can’t believe the price on Mopar stuff because they didn’t have the quality of steel that Ford and General Motors had. Consequently a lot of those cars are gone and that’s their expensive now because there isn’t that many left.

We notice the Light Eight and Standard eight have simple finials at the bumper ends, whereas the Deluxe Eight and Twin Six have cocktail-shaker style stabilizers in the bumper ends, an arrangement of springs and weights tuned to counter road shock.

What Jay said 👍 Restrained elegance, not flashy but with no detail overlooked for styling even under the hood. Good power for the era and synchromesh shifting which wasn't common. For those who don't know, non-synchro transmissions have to be shifted at certain speeds or the gears won't engage which limits you to one particular driving style and pace. Synchromesh gears made driving much smoother and easier. WYR the 32 Packard twice, but you gotta love a top-of-the-line ragtop so the Imperial gets my 3rd choice.
@What.its.like.8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing that information about the synchromesh gearbox. What I find crazy is four-speed was not an added cost option. All of the gears were completely completely synchronized and I’ve heard of this transmission absolutely magic because if you think about it, Duesenberg had the best engine in the world, but they didn’t have the best transmission. A lot of people said this was the best transmission in the world at this point in time…

Hi Jay! MAN, WHAT a Packard! They are SO beautiful! You know, if cars today were made from the same materials and with the same quality, they might be actually worth 60 grand plus! Everything today seems to be all about tech. I wonder if there is any way to adjust the steering wheel shaft on that car? Seems like the wheel sticks out quite a bit from the dash. Alternatively, there might be a way to add a piece to the driver's chair linkage to push it back a bit. Wouldn't be too comfortable for the back seat passengers, but it would make the car easier to drive. I am pretty short, but I still think the wheel would be hitting me in the gut, if the seat was moved forward any. The color scheme on this car is stunning! The dark reds and maroons have kind have gone away these days, but they are so pretty! So. . .it's WYR time! #1 Packard for sure. #2 Since I picked Packard on the first one I'm going Pierce! #3 Same thing, going Marmon on that one. That would make for a pretty interesting garage with those three!!

Rear mounted spare (because this buyer did not elect sidemounts, which might have been a good style choice for a close coupled coupe). But not yet a 'Continental' spare kit - because Edsel hadn't come up with that yet :) From the era when Packards were still top heap - consider that this was the 'base' model, discounting the Light Eight (itself a not a cheap car). The most remarked on feature of the initial ride control knob: "In - hard Out - Soft" Owners complained; it was changed. WYR (1932 will be hard, it was steller year and there weren't many looking cars) WYR: 1) Packard, 2) Pierce Arrow, 3) Imperial - that's a CL pictured, much more exclusive than the regular CH Imperial, and it was more than a match for the Standard Eight.

The "Grill" infront of the radiator is actually a stone shield. The real Packard radiator is behind it. They must have had some way to adjust the seat for the driver. They might not have been on sliders, but maybe there was some way to unbolt the seat and then re-mount it if the driver was tall like yourself. They would be more "Custom fit" like a shoe, made to the driver done at the dealership. IDK, I wasn't around back then.

The Packard is a symbol of American confidence showing the working man what he could achieve if he worked hard. It’s much more aspirational rather than realistic. The comparative luxury of the interior conflicted with the utilitarian nature car culture was to become post war. The opulence and optimism of the ruling classes despite the Depression was soon to be shattered in the grand democratization of the following eras when driving would become so popular it actually affected the climate with fuel emissions. I would take a Caddy, a Pierce Arrow and Lincoln. Packard never out shone the other car makers. Sorry Jay, you’re a Packard nut. I love the look of the other 32’s. Packard just doesn’t do it for me. It’s an also ran imitating Duezenberg but not good enough in design to surpass the other manufacturers in comparison.
