A wonderful performance. It even makes the snowflakes coming down outside dance. Beautiful sound. Nice crisp brass. It is great to know that the old technology did stuff a lot of full range sound into the record grooves, and you've extracted them very well to listen to again.

I love this tune Stealing Love so much. I discovered it when Tuba Skinny played it. The original version is very similar to their performance from 2019. Thank you so much for finding and sharing here.

Once upon a time I took a History of Jazz class. King Oliver was mentioned as one of the band leaders that helped move the music from the older Dixieland style toward the Swing/Big Band era and style. (If I remember correctly. It was an 8am lecture.)

King Oliver actually helped to create the "Dixieland" style back in the late 1900s-early 1910s, in addition to helping create the Big Band style 10-15 years later.

When did King Oliver cease recording with his Band; anyone know?
@kafenwar3 жыл бұрын
1931.
@danvanlandingham38543 жыл бұрын
I believe Oliver wasn't playing cornet on those recordings due to his bad teeth and other health problems.I believe the cornet soloist may be Dave Nelson.I know he kept the band together under the dom de disque of "The King's Men".

Yes and no. Sometimes Oliver could manage on good days. But it's hard to tell who's who on these 1930-1 Olivers.

Oliver plays the wa-wa solo in the last chorus of Stealin' Love, and, I believe, the muted solo in Olga.
