I think Model T paint was put on with a paint brush then pumiced. Its unlikely any of these high end restorations actually look like the originals. My grandfather used to paint his T with a brush every so often. Also routinely tested the brakes as they had leather brake shoes.

5:40 It looks as if the "6" circular badge could have been access to a "crank," perhaps on an earlier model. I was thinking, with 5.5:1 compression, those engines would actually be fairly easy to turn over by hand.

A very attractive car. Thanks Jay. Now here's a heads-up for when you do a 34 Plymouth. For 34, some models trialled independent front suspension. It was dropped for 35 and came back in 39. Could you add to your repertoire getting down on your knees and taking shots of suspension sometimes? The other time I wished for that was when you were looking at a Lincoln, and I wondered whether it used Ford's idiosyncratic suspension. On floor mounted starter buttons, they remove the need for a solenoid and for the starter gear to find it's own way to the ring gear teeth. Maybe it was cheaper to make. However, right hand drive versions of American 1930s cars did use solenoid operation, with hence a button on the dashboard.

Nice little coupe! I had really ignored this era of autos, and I can't say that they are favorite, but I can say that I've gained a new perspective and appreciation from seeing them on this channel!😎 First scenario, probably the Plymouth. Second, Never cared for any of these, although the new, trimmer version of the Enclave, (unless it's a different model I've seen), looks a lot better than in previous models, IMO.

I too was never really a huge fan of 30s cars until recently I mean I always like the Packards but there’s so much more to the 30s era lots of really cool styling innovations took place then Great choices i’m going to do a supercar opinionated would you rather which super cars aged terribly I honestly think the Bugatti Veyron from the 2000s aged really bad it looks like a kit car now.. I almost put that in this would you rather but I couldn’t find other super cars that look bad couldn’t think of any off the top of my head I’m not a huge super car fan

Such a fine style for that yr/range; a green '32 2 door sedan features in a key sequence in the movie: "Bonnie & Clyde". Incidentally, that lovely"painted" woodgrain-on-metal trim is actually the first application of the infamous "Di-Noc"; a feature that became ubiquitous across the industry. Yep, the "Family Truckster" started here.😊

This was a lot of car for $545 in 1933 - very nicely trimmed, and with thoughtful features. Probably why it was a top seller. The second wiper was indeed an option, note that the feature car has just the standard single wiper.

This handsome Plymouth was somebody's pride and joy in one of the worst years of the Great Depression. I'm so glad it survived. There are so many thoughtful touches in this car, like the elegant speedometer needle, which although not opulent is far nicer then I expected it to be. The original owner had every right to be proud of this car, and I'm sure he felt extremely fortunate to have the wherewithal to buy it. WYR #1: The Chevy. #2: The Aztec was always a toad and hasn't improved one little bit. The Buick is boring. The XLR has been a "Yes, please!" since day one!

Pretty car, with a lot of great features. Choices - 1933 Ford (easy for me as that was my dad’s first car) and the Enclave. The car that I shot wasn’t original and that’s kind of sort of why I didn’t do it immediately it’s been at classic automotive for sale for the last couple times I’ve been there I like original cars this one doesn’t have the right engine has a different steering wheel column which I’m not a fan of.. I don’t mind engine swaps I just don’t like it when people take the originality of the interior of the car and change it into something more modern you lose the aesthetics of what the car was trying to be in my opinion

Cool old Plymouth. It's really strange about that seat, I'm not sure I've ever seen one that low in a car of that era. I think the first round goes to the Chevy. it's a really good looking car. Second round, the Pontiac Aztek. I don't think it's as bad as it used to seem, but it's still not exactly pretty. I'd totally drive that Cadillac every day, though.

I saw one of those Cadillacs about a week ago and it had the hazy headlights and it looked sunbaked and it did not look good I was looking for a picture like that when it was driving in town it did not look good compared to everything else that was out there I just don’t think it aged that well.. I also don’t think the Bugatti Veyron aged well it looks like a kit car.. I totally agree with the Chevy as well those look like baby Packards to me they look so nice for entry-level brand

Hi Jay!: That Plymouth is a really slick design! Too bad it had uncomfortable seating! Gotta pick the 1933 Ford though, with that flathead v-8 power! Second. . . .hmmmmmm. . . .no real contest. . AZTEC for sure! That was weird when it came out! I guess it was pretty reliable? A manager that worked at my workplace still drives one! As an aside, it's a shame that all those pretty vehicles came out in 1932-34 when the depression was at its worst! Seems like there are less 1933 models around than pretty much any other year of the '30's. And the 1934 Packards and Cadillacs! REALLY NICE designs! The Cadillac and LaSalle with those NIFTY biplane bumpers and slick front end design! And Packards! Most of them are nice anyway!

People who remember Plymouths from the 60's and 70's would probably tell you you always got a little with them than a Ford or Chevy (torsion bars & A727 torqueflight notwithstanding). They always felt cheap, especially the Fury vs. Impala/Caprice, Galaxie/LTD. But in the 30's, up to WWII, you always got 'more'. It wasn't just floating power and 4 wheel hydraulics, there was a quality baked in and usually a better interior. Plymouths were usually the most expensive of 'the low priced three' as well. This when $20-30 meant something. (Inflation calculators become less useful during the depression - you really have to compare relative pricing - a blue collar working man might make 1,100 a year - and on that scale the Plymouth was more like $27,000 today) No idea you traveled so far to CCM, obviously multiple videos per trip / that's a killer 'commute' WYR: 1) that's tough: Ford has more zip and collector value, but the Plymouht would be generally more comfortable - have to figure out that seat issue. 2) Aztek - god awful.

I love that '33 Plymouth and would take it in a New York minute! Also, the Cadillac XLR(Corvette) is a pretty cool car. It's too bad that they didn't make more of them. Cadillac misjudged their Cadillac buyer's market. The choices made for the Pontiac brand were not the best. Bring back the LeMans, made in S. Korea by Daewoo wasn't a very smart move. Built on an Opel design, the first ones I saw was an actual Opel in Canada in 1986. Plagued with reliability issues from the start, replacement parts supplies were also a problem. Many cars were hung up in Pontiac dealerships for weeks at a time, waiting for warranty replacement parts. If that wasn't bad enough, Pontiac next brought in the Mexican made Aztec! Many consider the Aztec the final nail in Pontiacs coffin. It was already too late for Pontiac when they introduced the Australian-made GTO. Pontiac marketed the Aztec like Rambler marketed their cars in the mid-50's as great for car-camping. Pontiac offered a tent which would attach to the rear hatch . It didn't go over too well. Having an AWD option didn't help either. The drivetrain was fairly GM conventional and that may be why it lasted a few years. Even hauling one out to wherever they were shooting a season of "Survivor" and gave it away to one of the Survivors. Even that didn't result in new sales at the Pontiac dealers. Now, here's my Aztec story. For some reason, the Canadian government bought a fleet of Aztecs. I found out about this when one year I was at the S.E.M.A. show in Las Vegas. Alex Debagorski of the "Ice Road Truckers" was one of the featured celebrity guests. I was honored to hang out with him for awhile(and he's really the big nice guy you've seen on the show). While I was hanging out with him he kept getting calls from home. What I found out was that he bought a lot of 100 Aztecs at a government auction. He planned of getting them running and driving well so that he could resell them. When he told me, I couldn't contain my laughter. Alex didn't appreciate that. He told me that he paid so little for them that he couldn't help but make a nice profit. I like going to auto wrecking yards and finding all kinds of rarities and failed projects. One thing I have never seen is a Pontiac LeMans(Daewoo) or an Aztec. I can't tell you the last time I saw those cars driving around or even parked in somebody's yard. lol

Looks pretty decent considering its just a little more than the model T. Curb weight is modest even by todays standards. A little less than my 85 Saab 900. About the same as my TR 6. 400,000 cars sold in the depression. Nice.

Plymouth increased market share during the 1930s becoming a working man's favorite - the brand never got beyond it's blue collar popularity - came close in the early 70s, then the rising fuel prices knocked Plymouth down from which it never recovered

I’ve always liked the idea of rumble seats in automobiles, for they served two functions: a place to stash items out of prying eyes; and a place to put unpleasant passengers, like a mother-in-law. I suppose that our present day trunks are direct descendants of the rumble seat - a good place to deposit bodies… I mean luggage.

I totally agree So funny story I went to prom my jr year with a senior.. we left prom I offered to drive a couple other girls who were my friends home because they had a terrible night. Driving down this hill four lane highway inside of town. So the speed limit was 25-30. A Pontiac Aztec hit me ironically right we’re his ex girlfriend was riding. Thankfully no one was hurt. My parents were gone on weekends doing craft shows so I wanted to fix the car before they got home. And honestly the only damage done was a dent in rocker panel just before the rear wheel well. And the trim was messed up. Anyway parents didn’t know because I’d park the messed up side of the car not facing the house. The following Monday in school rumors the first one I heard I hit him, another my car was totaled, another was shocked to see me because he believed I was in the hospital. Word travels fast in small schools and towns my dad asked “ so what’s this I hear you getting I a car accident prom night”

To those who made comments like little more than a model t, let's take a look. Plymouth entered the market at 60yh but in &5: yrs was in 4,th. Unlike Chevy and Ford here are some features that it so driveable and durable. 100k super finish engines vs 40k ford and Chevy. Standard 4 wheel hydraulic brakes., Safety glass all windows. Full flow oil filter safety rims and synchronous trans to name a few.

The Pontiac is hedious compared to the Buick or Cadillac. The Caddy XLR actually looks a bit sexier due to the fact it doesn’t look like the melted jelly bean styling of the Buick. The Plymouth doesn't seem like a bad car overall except it does seem to be underpowered as you mentioned.

@@What.its.like. The concept behind the Caddy was a valid one. Put a "high performance" Corvette engine in a smaller, more luxurious car. The Caddy was supposed to be "the gentleman's hot rod". It worked to a limited extent but also took customers away from the Corvette.

Just a nice car! I could see why (other than price) why it was so popular at the time. Of the 3 (1933) choices, I'd take the Ford for the styling and the flathead V-8. The Pontiac Aztek is without question the epitome of ugly. The Buick does deserve an honorable mention - the styling looks like the aftermath of a dogs face that chases parked cars.

I think I’d take the ‘33 Plymouth. I know it’s Chrysler’s low cost car, but Chrysler Corp. went to hydraulic brakes earlier than the others (a friend’s ‘29 Dodge has them. All three of those modern cars aged badly, but the Aztek was weird from its first day.

At the line "even for a Plymouth" all Mopar lovers cringe in unison.... This was a banner year for Plymouth. The styling while pedestrian is nonetheless decent. Their floating power engine mounts created a very smooth feeling automobile. They were not as fast as the equivalent Ford model but they were good cars solid and dependable that year. 33 Plymouth. FTW

@@What.its.like. yep they just keep on chugging along. around 1961 or 62 My dad bought my mom a car to drive. I'm fairly sure it was a 49 Plymouth. Probably a model P 4 door sedan. It was an AZ car so zero rust. It wasn't fancy but it got her and us kids from point A to point B without issues. Not a style queen but a solid dependable car. The 219 flat six was a good engine and coupled to a 3 on the tree it got the job done. Mom drove that for probably 2 to 3 years and then dad sold it to a teenager. It was his first car and he was so thrilled to drive off on it with his dad following him home. I was probably 10 or 11 and never forgot how happy that kid looked when he first started that Plymouth up. I couldn't wait till I was old enough to own my first car. Which was a 59 Ford Galaxie 4 door sedan 292 Y-block. But that's a story for another time.

The Aztec didn't age badly, it was ugly from birth! The Buick and Caddy don't look so bad. The '33 Plymouth looks better to me than any car made today.
