My father was born in 1933. All throughout this movie I tried to imagine what life was like for my grandparents who would have been around the ages of the main characters. How very different it was then! They are all gone now, Dad and his parents of course. I was very struck by the passing of time when I read your comment.

Thank you! Love these old movies. I've never been brought closer to how it must feel to lose a baby than Myrna Loy brought me in that scene. Just close enough to know I can't think about it, can't go there. Only women who have been there can know that. She is fantastic, such a pro. I'll watch her in anything.

This match was part of the Sesquicentennial, held at the Municipal Stadium in Philadelphia on September 23, 1926. After ten rounds fought in the pouring rain, Tunney defeated Dempsey to claim the title of world’s heavy-weight champion. Although the match did not end in a knockout, Tunney is said to have been “a complete master, from first bell to last. He out-boxed and he out-fought Dempsey at every turn." And no....I was not there. Great film...thank you so much for archiving and posting!

Interesting. Surely, it wasn't easy to stay till the end, because so many matters traveled from bad to worse in assorted attitudes of a variety of different folks. Yes, it was very worthwhile to see the ending climatic change of some attitudes regarding even more than the primary two. As anyone watches this film, try keeping an open mind for what to do and what not to do. Thank GOD for every lesson during our lives for necessary improvements.

Love is about the other person, about his or her good, not about how you feel. This becomes a true love story--because it becomes sacrificial, on the husband's part as well as the lawyer's. A portrait of marriage, very well done!

Those two came through with the support of one superior friend and one good friend. I hope that people like Bill in real life find a special person to love and appreciate them, to help them form a sweet and faithful life of their own. (Instead of using all their resources and life to keep other peoples’ lives together, being rejected in every way in their own needs and wants.) Myrna Loy is always splendid! … also one of my favorites, Jean Dixon, who played Molly in My Man Godfrey and Martha Pryor in She Married Her Boss. Thank you for sharing this movie!

Life should be more like the silver screen: Myrna Loy and Warner Baxter had 5 divorces between them. I knew a real-life couple who couldn't have children, which the husband was fine with at the time they married, but later he decided he did want children of his own, so he left her.

SPOILER ALERT. This is a mini-review of the film, comments, and period. If you do me the honour of reading it, make sure you've seen the film first. I would hate to ruin it for you. How attitudes have changed since 1935. The comments are interesting. A couple of women whined that there was too big an age gap between the married couple. It was quite normal for there to be an age gap until feminists recently hung a "creepy" tag around its neck. They state the older man, younger woman dynamic was set up because the man is "controlling." This shows how little they know about either men or the gentle power of femininity. Some pick up that real love has a sacrificial element - in some cases, quite a big one. In all long and ultimately successful marriages, there will be sacrifice, the need for forgiveness, and a profound understanding of the meaning of making vows. I prefered Ian Hunter to Warner Baxter because I am English and prefer English men to Americans. But that is my preference, not the preference of Myrna Loy's character. The casting of these two men adds an interesting element. Marriage is hard and seeing the honourable, steady Englishman against the adulterous, drunk, American who grasps for big money rather than a work/life balance more conducive to a happy family life makes us taste some of the feelings of claustrophobic pain and irritation that the wife who has been through so much would naturally feel. Through this casting and characterisation, her commitment to the marriage is more keenly felt by us. One woman made some very silly remarks again based on modern feminist nonsense than knowledge of the period or her take on the film. The Myrna Loy character was a lot more than "thin ankles," and the wish for the boy to be the oldest child was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. We also learn that the man doesn't really care during the painful maternity scene. The history of girl children ultimately being preferred by their fathers doesn't feature in her understanding. I think this film is worthy of a quality upgrade, which is a specialist craft, not something that the man who posted this was responsible for. He didn't ruin the film with awful KZbin adverts every ten minutes, which is something we should appreciate. Altogether an interesting, beautifully acted film. A gem. I am grateful to the man who put it up.

Welcome to Hollywood, Clark Gable played the same role twice, 20 years apart but with younger actresses 2nd time 'round ('30's co-star Myrna Loy thinks he died @ 60 because he insisted on doing his own stunts with wild horses in the desert on Misfits), Cary Grant refused to work with Audrey Hepburn twice before agreeing to Charade & then retired because they wanted him to continue in romantic leads, he, Charlie Chaplin, Gable & Pierre Trudeau all became old fathers with young wives, didn't Pacino & DeNiro just become fathers?
