I have a ringer box for an old 30s phone seen in just about every black and white movie. I absolutely love it but the ringer is way too loud. So loud that I turned off the ringer for all the house phones. Is there a way to lower it?

Bit late, but I've tried old phones on both my brother's VZ FiOS Digital Voice & on my Obi200 ATA running off Google Voice. They will both ring mechanical bells (think my subset is a WE635A) Neither supports pulse dialing, however.

This is just so interesting and fun. I don't think that ringer would work on the phone output of a cable modem though. You must still have a standard phone line.

You are right it is the regular AT&T landline service.

I still have a land line coming to my house but went to cable voice over IP some years ago. I miss the old style telephones though. I had a nice dial type wall phone with a very long cord but now I use those cheaply made wireless phones with ni-cad batteries that eventually stop holding their charge for very long. I would love to have just one phone like you have. I could probably build an interface that would work on the modem and ring the bell with 24v 25c. Ah-yesss
