1938 Zephyr Part 28 - Crankshaft Grinding. Restoration of a 1938 Lincoln Zephyr V12 Coupe.

Ed Smith of Five Star Engine in Phoenix has reground the crankshaft for the Zephyr V12. To help us understand how that happened, he takes us for a tour of the crankshaft facility and we watch the complete process of setting up the machine and then watching a journal get ground .010 or ten thousands of an inch.

I was thinking about the radii in the corners of the journals, forty five years ago I was working in the plant workshops on a road construction in S.E.Iran, we had a crank grinder, a Danish ANC machine, I used two wheels, one with a big rad. in the corners for Cummins and CAT crankshafts and one with smaller rads for Land Rover and Toyota HiLux.

They should scrap out most of those cores and buy a modern crank grinder. Probably sell that Gleason welder too, Best piece of equipment in there sitting unused.
