Whether in a can or condensed or dried, the Type 2 coffee or fatty bacon rinds, fruit preserves long past their best and cool trinkets from East and West, the clock winds back before our eyes. @@Steve1989MRE Good to see you. Hope one day you manage to find a WW2 Mountain Ration and a WW2 Jungle Ration. They were issued to soldiers from 1942 to 1943 until they were replaced by the K-ration(though they did continued to be issued until 1944). The J-ration actually had two variations-the first one was lighter in weight and had higher quality meats like salted beef which was later replaced by heavier and cheaper canned meat like spam, tinned beef and pork loaf. Both of those rations are incredible rare and hard to find, few photos of them even exist.

Survival kits were using that style of pocketknife until the 1960s, my father was in the branch that issued them to aircrew, I have 2 of them that he brought home, as well as an original pilot helmet with oxygen mask.

If you ant to solder the box back together? You can get some tin 'tape' from a Stained Glass supply house, and a standard solder iron and solder & flux. Use some Scotch Bright to remove some corrosion, 'tin' the metal box edges by applying a thin layer of solder, then start applying the tin tape. I suggest putting a block of plywood inside to help it keep form, wear a sturdy glove in your off hand so you can hold the tin tape which will be hot, and use two supporting piece of plywood and a couple of small clamps to hold everything together. Pretty much how those things were made back then. Don't forget to cut a tail and leave it loose and solder a key on it.

Very nice, Good unboxing of real vintage items.👍 Those old paratrooper chocolate tins won a lot of battles without soldiers. 😚 After eating the chocolate, the tins were heavily used as dishes. 🍫 Even the soldered sealing metal strip, was useful as a handle, or to move something hot. 😊

this is the most soul-filled survival kit i've ever seen. it makes me kinda sad nothing is like this anymore. This is something strictly for survival, but just look at the craftsman ship, the poetry, the brass, leather, and you can tell the people putting these kits together actually cared about who might use it. Nothing looks even remotely disposable or cheesy. Look in basically any survival kit now, or even standard issue military gear.

The contents of the kit is great but I think the most awesome aspect is the packing - compressed fiber, cotton canvas with hay fill - even then in the kit the goggles made of leather. Not a polymer in sight. A world without forever polymers is a world we can return to.
