With a couple Soviet exceptions and sometimes urban combat, tanks usually engaged one another from several hundred meters away, as the enemy guns were a lot more effective if you are closer to them. At that time it was usually at least 700 meters but no more than 5 kilometres. These days it is upwards of 10 kilometres. Back then, when a tank was destroyed, it was extraordinarily rare for anyone to get out before it was too late.

The only reason that Panzer II looks weird is due to the lack of specific lego parts in order to make the stubbed, wide turret the earlier models of the Panzer II had.

There is only one massive battle of tanks during the Battle of France in 1940. The only one where the French staff understood made tanks in big number is better than small unities. And the French tanks winning the battle until the arrival of the German planes which destroyed the French tanks. In the air, the French fought on 1 against 3 or 4 German planes... Despite this, during the same period, there were twice as many German planes shot down during the Battle of France than during the Battle of England. France did not prepare or prepared too late for the Second World War unlike the First World War. It paid a lot for it, because France is not an island surrounded by water.

@@clio2rsminicup French tanks were superior to the German ones in pure tank vs tank combat, that's why the Germans pioneered combined arms warfare to deal with that. So pointing that "we could win but only if Germans made a mistake" isn't really rehabilitating France. The last points of resistance of poor and weak Poland who got attacked from two sides fought only a week shorter than the powerful French Empire. You got steamrolled waaaay too quickly for the power that you were, accept that.
Who knew Lego combat could be so brutal? Great work. Really shows the weakness of French tactics at the time.

In the vid, you can see the french plane Morane-Saunier 406. This aircraft could have changed the fate of WW2. It was the best fighter of the pre war era, unfortunately french gov refused to build more of them because they were short in money for having created the legal holydays... This said, basic french soldiers were really brave in may-june 1940 and performed loads of heroic resistance. As the "calvalry cadets" in Saumur on the Loire river, and those who protected the british retreat around Dunkirk and stopped five german divisions long enough to let the brits flee.
@eriglebrundelabouexiere4725 жыл бұрын
@@derludwigwietondon3559 Would you REALLY disagree with W. Churchill? “These Frenchmen, under the gallant leadership of general Molinié, had for four critical days contained no less than seven German divisions which otherwise could have joined in the assaults on the Dunkirk perimeter. This was a splendid contribution to the escape of their more fortunate comrades of the BEF” W. Churchill About the defence of the British troops retreat in Dunkirk The French forces, almost entirely out of ammunitions, surrendered on the evening of the 31st, after an offer of capitulation from the Germans had been refused in the morning. The general leading German forces, general Waeger, was so impressed by the defence of the French soldiers he allowed them to parade in front of the winners on the next day. This is the only time such event happened during WW2, and Hitler actually sacked General Waeger, accusing him of having lost time, because he organized the parade.

Interesting to hear every ones perspective on the situation. As far as I'm concerned the French Morane-Saunier 406, though being a highly maneuverable aircraft's, were easily outperformed in the air by the German Messerschmidt BF 109s. Germany were able to achieve total aerial superiority as a result of the obsolete french aircraft's and British reluctance to provide additional support, though with good reason as British aircraft's were also being shot down at high rates, resulting in Hugh Dowding's decision to keep most British aircraft's in Britain itself, a decision that would prove essential to British victory during the battle of Britain. It is fair to say that the French high command were deeply incompetent, making military blunder after blunder, and failing to form an effective front against the Germans, not to mention their decision to distribute their superior tanks along defensive lines, as oppose to combining them into one large force, utilizing their superior strength, to battle the German Panzers. The French soldiers themselves, cannot be excused either. There are many reports of drunkenness, ill discipline and their lack of perseverance. That being said, there was an exceptionally brave force defending Dunkirk, allowing for approximately 350,000 men to be evacuated. Though the French forces defending the beach were without doubt brave, it was not their heroic defense which held back the Germans. Hitler himself had ordered for the German tanks and infantry to take a well deserved break and deployed only minor land offensives. He relied on Goering's Luftwaffe to destroy all transport ships attempting to flee the beaches. It was one of an infinite number of military blunders Hitler made. He could have totally destroyed this large British force but chose not to. As for Churchill, he was lucky to even be made Prime Minister after his disastrous and humiliating blunder in Norway. Lord Halifax, the foreign secretary, was officially elected into the role, but stepped down in the belief that Churchill would be a better Prime Minister for the war, despite is poor military history. Though Churchill greatly increased the morale in Britain, he never did too much, leaving his army generals and commanders to work out the issues prominent during the war. I would certainly not trust Churchill too much personally, as he was a racist power hungry pig, responsible for the notorious Bengal famine in India and capable of just as much propaganda which was coming out of Hitler and Goebbels. This is merely my understanding of the battle for France, briefly summarized in this small paragraph. I of course accept that the sources we are exposed to are generally different to one another and would therefore like to say that despite believing that my account is the objective reality of the situation, I am prepared to accept that I could always be wrong. my source: www.goodreads.com/book/show/13528287-the-second-world-war
