Today on what it’s like 1940 packard 160 super 8. For the 1940 model year Packard offered the same styling across all its slides ( except Darrin bodies ) 1940 saw the release of an industry first pioneer by Packard air conditioning, 1940 was the first time any automotive manufacture, offered air-conditioning as an option.. built in house lots of cool advertisements in this wine comparisons. Just a really cool car. Enjoy. =)

If the NTT isn't I'm a Man by Spencer Davis Group is it the same song by Chicago Transit Authority? I absolutely love this Packard and wish I was the man you could ask about it. Imagine buying a new one for $40,380 today. That would be so awesome. A fairly stripped Chevy Colorado costs $40k where I live. I would easily choose this 1940 Packard 160 Super 8 in both WYR scenarios.

On the Packard air conditioning, as mentioned in the description you showed, the drive belt had to be removed from the AC compressor to turn it off, otherwise it ran all the time! An automatic clutch to disconnect the compressor came later.

That is a beautiful Packard! Packard built 300 cars with A/C in 40. Cadillac built 300 cars with A/C in 41 (I don't know how many Packard built in 41). After the war, it took until about 1953 before manufacturers got back on the A/C bandwagon. Fun fact: The engineers who designed automotive A/C thought that the A/C should only bring the car down to about 80 degrees. They thought that if someone got out of a 'cold' (40-50degs) car into the hot summer temps, they would faint or otherwise be harmed. Thankfully, they came to their senses. WYR= all of them, but the Continental would be first choice, but the REAL first choice would be the Citroen DS sitting next to the Packard. If anyone is interested, the Corvair Society of America and the National Impala Association will be having a convention the week of July 21-26, at the Marriott at the University of Dayton hotel, in Dayton Ohio. Anyone can come and look at the cars! Sunday the 21st is check in day, the rest of the week is various car events.

Hi Jay! DUDE! A Super 8 Packard FESTIVAL for the eyes! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that car!!! Absolutely gorgeous from every angle, magnificent engine, LOVELY interior! Those mid-to late thirties and 1940-41 Packards are my favorite! It has to be said, though, without the Junior series cars, there might have been NO Packard at all by 1939-40. The numbers say it all! 90 thousand plus Junior series as compared to what, SEVEN THOUSAND cars! Can't keep an automobile company open in those economic conditions with just the carriage trade! WYR As much as the Lincoln is SO nice to look at, Gotte go Packard, here! #2, Just give me ALL of those!!!!!

Awesome choices I totally agree. It’s such a nice looking car. The only downer is the 120 which just like it and it’s on the same wheelbase. The dashboard is a little bit different but aside from that and the interior material it’s virtually the same car, different engine as well

@@charlesdalton985 I went to the Salem concourse event yesterday and there’s some really cool Packard coming 1938 Packard, Darrin as well as a 1942 which was, it’s probably the most important Packard, Darren, or one of them. It was the last one ever built they only made 15 and 42 and this is car number 15. It was an absolute honor… I took a video of all the cars coming in. I’m going to piece it together and post it because I got to see four Duesenberg’s yesterday and Marmon 16 when the Marmon 16 went past it was whisper quiet. Cord l29 I wanted to do all of the cars there but I ended up talking a lot. It was hot like 90°. Humidity was high I didn’t do any Duesenberg. I’ve been putting that off I’m going to the Auburn cord and Duesenberg shindig in August. I’m going to do at least one up there , I did three Auburn I think one of them is going to be tomorrow. I wanted to do the cord episode, but I have to find dashboard pictures. I didn’t get the dashboard of that car…

Packard/Cadillac/Lincoln, all three in that order. In the second scenario, definitely the 41 Packard, I prefer the stand-alone headlights. In a bit of trivia, the fender crease, usually called a wind split, is where the fender halves are joined.

Awesome =) For shits and giggles I looked up 115 C Packard last night just to see what they were going for. They’re the same amount of money as 120. Sometimes you can get a super eight for the same amount of money as a 115 C but according to the people in the Packard club, nobody wants a six cylinder Packard. They’re so I don’t know they’re like 30 grand.. I saw a couple outliers there was a really nice one for 14k, $14k would probably be the best purchase price for that car I guess

I cannot imagine having to run errands in this beast! But, then again, if you owned one of these, you prolly had someone to run those errands for you. The color on this thing is what makes it too. Not a real fan of yellow, but it's gorgeous on this. All things said though, I think I prefer the '39's styling over the '40. Running boards were an option? WYR: 1) Surprisingly, the Caddy! 2) The '39.
@What.its.like.
@What.its.like. Ай бұрын
Conflicting information on the running boards. I got most of the pros and cons from the book of collectible cars that book claims runningboards were an option. But as with everything a lot of times, it might be an option on the lower models and standard on the higher models Case in the Duesenberg episode that we did, every source said that it was three main bearings and then when I found the literature, it said it was five main bearings which make a whole lot more sense and three main bearings in the straight eight the water pump used three main bearings, and that’s where the misconception came from
@middleclassretiree

Beautiful car but for the WYR I will choose the Lincoln. The Packard had a lot going for it but like you said you thought it was a 120 and when you were spending that kind of money the last thing you’d want is to be mistaken for a lesser model and the continental was beautiful and unmistakable 👍

Possibly the most telling images here are the comparison of the 1941 Packard with the 1940. The march of styling dictated the moving of headlights into the fenders, but Packard never seemed to be able to make that transition work with their traditional grille design. I think that this was a factor in, and marks the beginning of their eventual demise.

14:27 In the 1973 novel _The Reincarnation of Peter Proud_ Max Ehrlich describes the speedometer in a '40 Packard in detail as part of one of the nightmares the title character suffers that makes him and his doctors consider reincarnation as a possibility. In the 1975 film adaptation, the professor sees a classic coffin-nose Cord in a classic car showroom and describes the headlight operation in unison with the salesman.
